Discover Top RV Parks & Campgrounds in California

At the top of most RV camping travel lists, the sunny state of California is famous for its diverse landscape and endless opportunities for outdoor activities. With its warm summers and mild winters, you can take a California RV road trip at any time of the year. In the westernmost part of the United States, California's bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the east. Both water and winter sports lovers can have a blast here. And if you want to switch it up, you can go from the beach to the snowy mountain tops in a matter of hours.

The Golden State abounds with incredible cities, and most of the largest metropolitan areas are situated in its southern part. Los Angeles sprawls from the ocean coast to the San Gabriel Mountains, home to iconic spots like Venice Beach and Hollywood. If you want to discover the history of the state, head north and visit Sacramento, its capital.

When it comes to natural features, there is hardly a place that can compare to California. It's home to both the highest and the lowest point in the country. Whether you want to spend your vacation in a lush forest, admiring desert scenery, or surfing ocean waves, California's got you covered. Gaze at the crystal-clear waters of Lake Tahoe from Emerald Bay State Park, tour the unusual landscape of Joshua Tree National Park, and observe the giant sequoias of Yosemite National Park when you rent an RV in California.

RV Camping in California

California is a land of diversity, and each of its regions has something unique to offer. If you want to take your rental RV to Northern California, you will be greeted by the dramatic ocean coast, soaring mountains of the Cascade, Klamath, and Coast ranges, and the fruitful Sacramento Valley, as well as the cities of Sacramento and San Francisco. Several national forests and many state parks can be found in this part of the state, bringing with them a great number of campgrounds. RV parks offering full hookups can be found both along the coast and inland, mostly near major highways and roads, so wine lovers looking for RV campsites for Festival Napa Valley can relax and have fun without thinking about where to park.

Moving south, you will arrive in San Joaquin Valley, a flat area bordered to the east by the Sierra Nevada Mountains, a goal for many travelers who want to find out what California camping is all about. Whether you're looking for full hookups and Wi-Fi access or a perfect spot to pitch a tent in the shade of lush trees, chances are you’ll find what you seek in one of the RV parks and campgrounds in the Sierra Nevadas. Spend time in Yosemite National Park and Sierra National Forest, and you’ll never want to leave.

Many adventurers come to California for its southern region, with never-ending sandy stretches of beach, sunny weather, and fantastic nature. Southern California RV parks and campgrounds are concentrated along the coast and in the forests close to it. If you're in the mood for a real adventure, head northeast to Death Valley National Park, where wildlife and water are sparse, and temps soar. Several campgrounds can be found throughout the park, though most are primitive with limited amenities. Pull into one of the full-hookup RV campsites at Furnace Creek Campground, though, and you can return to cool air and running water after a day of exploring the desert.

When you opt for an RV rental in Southern California, you shouldn’t miss out on spending some time in Los Angeles. RV parks are plentiful here, so you can stay as close as possible to all the action and famous attractions such as Disneyland and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Secluded accommodations can be found in the campgrounds in Los Angeles National Forest and the state parks to the south of the city.

With shimmering beaches, snow-capped mountains, untouched forests, and bustling cities, California RV camping will satisfy outdoor enthusiasts and urbanites alike. Search for an RV rental in California and start planning your next adventure.
