When you book an RV in Nevada County, you’ll want to check out Empire Mine State Park, especially if you love history and the outdoors. Nestled in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Grass Valley, the park is the site of one of California’s oldest, deepest, and richest gold mines. The mine was in operation for over 100 years, and over 5.8 million ounces of gold were extracted from it until it closed in 1956. The park encompasses 856 acres, 367 miles of abandoned and flooded mine shafts, and more than 14 miles of multi-purpose trails. South Yuba River State Park is another incredible place and offers something for everyone. Tucked in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the park is home to four historic bridges, a wheelchair-accessible wilderness trail, and miles of hiking trails. Other popular activities at the state park include swimming, mountain biking, gold panning, and fishing. Because the park is home to a large number of birds, birdwatching is popular here too. Keep your eyes peeled for bald eagles, American dippers, hermit thrush, belted kingfisher, and more. Just a few minutes' drive from Nevada City in Penn Valley, South Yuba River State Park is the perfect place to hide away in nature for a while. If you happen to camp in an RV near Nevada City during the winter, you’re in for a treat. The area is home to several amazing ski resorts. Whether you’re into skiing, snowboarding, tubing, or sledding, these resorts offer an array of amenities and attractions. Depending on which resort you choose, you’ll have several options for dining, world-class shopping, bars, cozy cabins, and more. Bundle up and hit the slopes or stay inside with a mug of hot cocoa. Either way, you won’t be disappointed.
