The Great Outdoors

Honey Creek State Park is very large, and there are lots of outdoor activities to enjoy while you are motorhome camping there. There are interesting hiking and nature trails that will take you deep into the park. This is a great way to enjoy the scenery, and you may also see some wildlife while you're at it. This is a popular place to watch bald eagles and other beautiful animals. Taking the interpretive trail will lead you through the ancient Woodland Indian mounds, and there is even a history display at the entrance to the trail where you can learn about the area's past. When camping in an RV at Honey Creek Campground, you'll also have access to Rathbun Lake, which is a hugely popular destination for boating and fishing. If you don't have your own boat, you can rent one in one of the many nearby small towns. There are a dock and boat launch at the campground, so it's easy to head out onto the water. Kayaking and canoeing are very popular here, but if you're more of a daredevil, you may want to try waterskiing. Other types of watercraft are also welcome here, whether you have a sailboat or a motorized one.Anglers will be happy with the selection of fish available here, and the fish cleaning station makes it easier to enjoy your catch. Walleye, bass, and crappie are in abundance here, and you might also hook some catfish if you are lucky. Because this is such a favorite fishing destination, there are lots of outfitters nearby where you can pick up equipment as well as any bait and tackle you may need.

Exploring The Area

Although Honey Creek Campground is relatively secluded, there's still plenty to do in the area while you are RV camping here. The Honey Creek Resort is located right outside of the state park and is home to an indoor water park as well as a large golf course. The resort is a big draw for people throughout the state, and it's worth a visit while you're camping near Rathbun Lake.Another fun attraction in the area is the Lake Rathbun Country Music Theater, which is located just outside the park and is a great place to see local and traveling musical acts. There are also several country restaurants located just a short drive outside the park where you can enjoy a nice, filling dinner. The town of Moravia is also nearby when you book an RV in Appanoose County. Although it's very small, the community is a good place to pick up essentials, as there is a small grocery store. It's also a short drive to the town of Centerville, which is slightly larger and has a broader range of options when it comes to groceries. You'll find cute diners and cafes there too, where you can enjoy a good meal.If you are looking for a slightly more urban escape, you may want to make the drive up to Des Moines. Although it is a small city, it has loads of Midwestern charm and culture that make it worth a visit. The Des Moines Art Center is known as an excellent place to see modern art, and the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden is also a popular tourist destination with beautiful exhibits. This short road trip is a great way to see one of the Midwest's best cities.

It doesn't get more convenient than having your own bathroom on the road. Let's talk about the 3 main types of toilets you may encounter in an RV rental.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
