The Great Outdoors

You and your Independence camper rental will be situated in the heart of Elk City State Park, so you might as well make the most of having such fantastic nature on your doorstep. Rolling meadows meet with oak and hickory woodlands, and together they create a place ideal for you whether you want your heart to beat faster, or slower. Go swimming in the lake, try to decide which of the hiking trails is your favorite, and keep an eye open for all sorts of wildlife, including the large pileated woodpecker. There’s definitely something for everyone here.Head to Independence and its Riverside Park and Ralph Mitchell Zoo, a place that’s fun for the whole family. Visit the stunningly cute animals such as monkeys, llamas, and foxes - one of the best ways to do this is to go on the train that runs through the park. You can also go on delightful, vintage rides like the colorful merry-go-round, or play a game of mini-golf.Hop into your Independence RV rental and prepare to cross another state line, this time you’re headed to Missouri and Roaring River State Park. Go hiking on one of the seven trails with stunning views of the deep valley surrounded by a rugged landscape that makes up the park, and bring your fishing rod so that you can catch some rainbow trout for dinner. Cool off in the swimming pool, have a picnic, or learn more about the park at the nature center. You can even camp here, in case the camper rental at Elk City Campground needs a new environment.

Exploring the Area

Before you leave, you have to make the most of being so close to Independence. Park your camper rental and stroll down Main Street, with its charming architecture and busy commerce, then head to Independence Historical Museum and Arts Center for some more local goodness. Hear about the struggles of the early pioneers and check out what prairie life was like, learn why Independence’s baseball history is so significant, and save some time for the real-life Little House on the Prairie. While in the area, you might as well give Wichita a visit. Get a ticket to see a game of ice hockey, or you could watch some live music, performing arts, or a live comedy show - it’s completely up to you. You can also visit an art or a history museum, see old airplanes at the Kansas Aviation Museum, or do some serious shopping. There are shopping centers, boutiques, and the most unique and delicious foods, such as chocolate made from 100-year-old recipes, or newly roasted nuts. You can also choose between a whole bunch of restaurants, from American cuisine to fine dining to food trucks.Have you started your search for an RV rental in Independence yet? Good - you definitely won’t regret it.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
