Exploring the Area

It is known as one of the world's longest multiple arch dams. It was built on the Neosho River and forms the Grand Lake. There is an education center here that highlights the workings of this hydroelectric dam, as well as how it was constructed. Guided tours are even available at given times. RV camping at this campground will make it easy to reach all the interesting attractions found nearby.The Eastern Trails Museum is located in Vinita. The museum is housed in an old Coca-Cola bottling plant, and the history of the local area is featured here. Exhibits give examples of townsites such as an old general store, and they describe the American Indian cultures that lived in the local region. Other nearby, historical sites are discussed, including a Civil War battlefield and the famous Route 66. There is also a map available of historic homes in the local area.Speaking of Route 66, portions of this acclaimed road, also called the Mother Road, run near the campground. This historical route was one of the main ways to travel to and through the Western US before interstates became widespread.
