Lake Norman State Park is not far from the campground and covers a mixture of verdant forests and wetlands along the edge of Lake Norman. The park features a 375-foot swimming beach, and anglers will have the opportunity to catch perch, crappie, and a variety of bass at this lake. You can explore the area surrounding the lake along over 30 miles of hiking and biking trails that lead along the lake and meander through the park's dense woodlands.Another popular lakeside state park worth visiting is Lake James State Park. This park features Lake James, a 6,000-acre crystal clear lake, which is excellent for watersports. There are two boat ramps for easy access to the lake, and there's a designated swimming area. The park even has a well-managed trail system, which is excellent for hikers and mountain bikers, with15 miles of trails that lead past beds of wildflowers and along the lake.If you're considering visiting one of North Carolina's stunning mountain ranges, plan a trip to nearby South Mountains State Park. This mammoth park features rugged terrain, babbling brooks, and lush forests. This park is ideal for hiking, with many trails that lead up mountains, past 80-foot-tall waterfalls, and much more. The park's mountains rise up to 3,000 feet above sea level, affording spectacular panoramas of the forest and the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains. Several mountain streams in the park are perfect for fishing, and the park is a hotspot for catching wild trout.

Exploring the City

While enjoying your campervan rental near Lake Norman, you'll want to venture into the big city and explore Charlotte. The city boasts an array of great activities for families. Any racing fan will want to explore the NASCAR Hall of Fame, which contains an honors board celebrating some of the biggest names in the sport. As well as this hall of fame, there are also lots of museum exhibits on display, from jumpsuits and helmets used in racers to some well-known retired racecars. If you're feeling hungry after exploring the museum, grab a bite to eat at the NASCAR themed cafe.Charlotte is a culturally diverse city, and this can be seen in its museums. The Mint Museum Randolph is one of Charlottes' premier art museums and features over 35,000 pieces in its permanent collection, specializing in American and European art. The museum also contains a diverse range of artistic media, such as photography, fashion, and sculptures. There are works by some well-known American painters on display here, including paintings by Robert Henri, Maurice Prendergast, and John Sloan.One of Charlotte's most popular attractions for families is Sea LIfe Charlotte. This aquarium is sure to be a hit with the whole family. It features hundreds of species of marine animals, including blacktip reef sharks, clownfish, and an array of dazzling jellyfish. This aquarium also features some unique exhibits, such as a walkthrough 360-degree tunnel and touch pools, so that you can get closer than ever to your favorite sea creatures.
