The Great Outdoors

Cherokee campers will be itching to explore the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park covers thousands of acres of lush, forest-covered mountains, peaceful valleys, and gentle streams. There are hundreds of miles of trails to explore, many of which lead past waterfalls, along babbling brooks, and up rugged mountain paths. One of the most popular hikes is up to Charles Bunion. This eight-mile round trip takes you to the top of the mountain, providing stunning panoramas of the park. Hikers should watch out for potentially dangerous wildlife during their adventures, including black bears and elk. If you'd prefer to try a relaxing activity, there are hundreds of streams in the park suitable for fishing, with anglers traveling from across the state to catch trout in these waters.Another nearby mountain range worth exploring is the Blue Ridge Mountains. Table Rock State Park is located just across the South Carolina state line, and features 3,000 acres of verdant woodlands, with Table Rock Mountain providing a breathtaking backdrop. Hikers looking for a long trek will love this park, thanks to the 80-mile Foothill Trail that leads up into the mountains. The park also features two lakes, Pinnacle Lake and Lake Oolenoy, which are big enough for a variety of activities. Lake Oolenoy has a fishing pier, and catches include bream, catfish, and bass. Lake Oolenoy also has a boat ramp and a place where visitors can rent kayaks and canoes. If you're looking to explore a lesser-known area of North Carolina, consider a trip to Gorges State Park. This stunning park features tropical forests, rocky ravines, and sublime waterfalls near the South Carolina border. There are several long and challenging hikes at this park due to the terrain; however, the scenery and animals you'll see on the way will make the hike well worth it. These trails pass by several impressive waterfalls while also offering scenic views from high above nearby foothills and woodlands. Watersports are also possible here at the park's lakes and rivers, including boating and fishing, and anglers can expect to catch smallmouth bass, brown trout, and rainbow trout.

Exploring the City

Cherokee campers looking to see the best cities in this region of North Carolina should plan a visit to Asheville. One of North Carolina's major cities, Asheville is oozing with excellent cultural and historical attractions. The Thomas Wolfe Memorial is one of Asheville's best attractions, and any lover of literature will revel in exploring this important novelist's home. The house is the setting of Wolfe's autobiographical novel, Look Homeward, Angel, and over time, has become a popular destination for tourists looking to pay tribute to this famous author.Another popular historic site in Asheville is the Biltmore Estate. This mammoth mansion built in the style of a French chateau is touted as the largest house in America. During the late 1800s, the wealthy Vanderbilt family resided in it. Visitors can now tour this remarkable building, complete with original fixtures and ornate botanical gardens. You can even enjoy a high-class meal in the dining room, or purchase a bottle of wine from the on-site winery. If you're looking to have some fun during your rental RV vacation near Asheville, consider a trip to the Asheville Pinball Museum. One of the most unique museums you'll ever come across, this interactive museum contains over 80 classic pinball machines. The museum is the perfect destination for a rainy day and is sure to be something the whole family will enjoy.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
