You can experience the great outdoors and a great sense of community when you visit Pinnacle Park with your RV rental near the Timberlake Campground and RV Park. This 1,100-acre tract features a network of developed hiking trails that take you through streams, waterfalls, and vistas. There is a 3.4-mile trail that follows an old logging road through a grassy ridge and to the top of the peak. There are also 7.5 miles of streams. Other recreational activities here include picnicking, nature viewing, and photography.The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is celebrated for its geographical and cultural significance as well as its diversity of plant and animal life, and you can visit it easily when you camp in an RV near Whittier. The park has earned the unofficial nickname of “Wildflower National Park” for the 1,500-plus species of flowering plants that make their homes here. Fall foliage is equally spectacular. Information, exhibits, and book and gift stores are available at the Sugarlands Visitor Center, the Oconaluftee Visitor Center, the Cades Cove Visitor Center, and the Clingmans Dome Visitor Contact Station. Ranger-led programs are also offered throughout the park. Recreational activities include auto tours, hiking, climbing, biking, fishing, horseback riding (guided rides are available at concession riding stables), picnicking, and wildlife viewing.You can also spend some time at the Nantahala National Forest when you rent a camper near the Timberlake Campground and RV Park. This national forest covers over 500,000 acres, and the highest elevation is 5,800 feet at Lone Bald. Other special places in the forest include the Ellicott Rock Wilderness Area, the Southern Nantahala Wilderness Area, the Chattanooga Wild and Scenic River, the Mountain Waters Scenic Byway, and the Cherohala Skyway. Recreational activities here include target shooting, hiking, climbing, hunting and fishing, water sports, geocaching and letterboxing, picnicking and scenic drives, and snow sports.

Exploring the Area

You’ll be near Bryson City when you are enjoying your Whittier camper rental. This is a lovely little city in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains. You’ll have easy access to mountains, rivers, forests, and whitewater. Some of the highlights here include the Cottage Craftsman art museum, the Swain County Visitor Center and Heritage Museum, the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad Depot, the Fly Fishing Museum of the Southern Appalachians, and the Smoky Mountain Train Museum. Other things to do and see around here include the Oconaluftee River Trail, the Museum of the Cherokee Indian, the historic Mingus Mill, and Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort. As a sovereign nation, the reservation is able to host games of skill and chance.
