City Sightseeing

With a little bit of driving, you can do some sightseeing in nearby towns and cities like Black Mountain or Asheville. Swannanoa Valley Museum is an excellent institution with a treasure trove of information about Swannanoa Valley and its fascinating history. Here you can take tours and learn about frontier settlers, local native tribes, and famed Spanish architect Rafael Guastavino, who is honored by the museum. Old antiques and photographs adorn the walls of this lovely small-town museum.The North Carolina Arboretum is down in Asheville, just outside the city. No place better showcases the biodiversity or the beauty of western North Carolina, one of the lushest and most beautiful parts of the world thanks to a large amount of rainfall. Gorgeous trees, plants, and flowers of all different shapes and colors are showcased at this excellent arboretum. Stroll through meticulously manicured gardens, trek the nature trails, or stop by in the winter to check out the arboretum's Winter Lights attraction.For a quirky change of pace, consider a visit to the Asheville Pinball Museum. You can grab some drinks and snacks while playing classic arcade games and old-school pinball machines. The collection is extensive and impressive, featuring hundreds of machines, some of which date back several decades.
