The Great Outdoors

You can experience the great outdoors when you take your Marble RV rental to the Cherohala Skyway through the Cherokee National Forest and the Nantahala National Forest. The Cherohala Skyway has been designated a National Scenic Byway, and the terminals are at Tellico Plains, TN and Robbinsville, NC. It is a paved two-lane road and is maintained by the North Carolina and Tennessee Departments of Transportation as well as the U.S. Forest Service. You’ll enjoy spectacular views as the skyway ranges from 900 to 5,400 feet above sea level. You can also enjoy recreational activities, including hiking, canoeing and kayaking, and bird watching. Staffed visitor centers at both ends offer maps, restrooms, and shops with merchandise, gifts, and souvenirs.For another kind of adventure with your Marble camper rental, you may want to consider trying whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River. Local outfitters and guides offer guided river rafting tours, river rafts for rent, and single or double inflatable kayaks for rent. You’ll enjoy raft rides that can be as wild or mild as you like. Zip lining, canopy tours, and Jeep tours are also available. You’ll see nature as never before. This is fun for the whole family, but children must be at least seven years old to participate.You can also visit the Wesser Bald Fire Tower in Franklin via the Appalachian Trail when you are Murphy/Peace Valley KOA camping. This is a popular, moderately strenuous 2.2-mile trail leading out and back from the tower. The incline to the tower is 718 feet. There are opportunities for bird watching, wildflower and nature viewing, and photography along the way and a 360-degree view from the top of the tower. Leashed dogs are welcome on the trail.

You can also head into the neighboring city of Murphy to explore and entertain yourself when you rent a camper near Murphy/Peace Valley KOA campground. Murphy is the seat of Cherokee County and offers plenty of options for everyone in your travel group. Enjoy the well-maintained city parks or the Murphy River Walk when you want open green space and a community feel. The Cherokee Historical Museum covers the culture and history of the area, and there are also numerous historical buildings, including the Robert Lafayette Cooper House. The L&N Depot is home to the smallest railroad in the country with a short set of tracks, one boxcar, and one caboose. Art galleries are open to visitors for viewings. The antique marketplace is full of treasures, and gem mining is available for those who prefer a different kind of treasure hunting. Adults can enjoy tours and tastings at a local winery. Make sure to check out the Murphy Visitor Center and the Cherokee County Tourism Development Authority for up-to-date information on area attractions, events, and travel guides.One of the largest attractions near Murphy/Peace Valley KOA is the hotel and casino less than two miles down the road. Try your luck at games of chance and skill including slot machines, video poker, blackjack, craps, roulette, and more. There are dining options on site, and the casino's entertainment center is suitable for the whole family, featuring bowling, billiards, an arcade, a snack bar, and a full-service bar.Candy and other snacks are available at the KOA office when you're RV camping here. Besides the restaurants at the casino, you’ll also be able to find local eateries serving comfort food, barbecue, and ethnic specialties as well as familiar fast-casual chains. When you need to fill your tank as well as your tummy, there are plenty of service stations, truck stops, and convenience stores offering both gasoline and diesel fuel.
