Nature lovers will find themselves in a wilderness wonderland when camping at Red Trail Campground in Medora. Theodore Roosevelt National Park is within walking distance of the campground, and once you've arrived, you probably won’t want to leave. If you'd rather explore from the comforts of your rig, take the camper rental on one of the park's scenic drives, which offer excellent views of the Badlands. Watch the bison as they roam the plains and find yourself a nice camping spot so you can hike around the area. A guided tour is a terrific way to learn about all the nature and history the park has to offer.Little Missouri State Park south of Mandaree is another option you can check out to see more of the North Dakota terrain. This outdoor oasis is off the beaten path and packed with rolling hills, mountains, and forested canyons. Over 45 miles of trails provide opportunities to see the park, and there are camping areas as well, so you can take the journey at your own pace. Beyond the hiking trails, you can also find equestrian trails.Another beautiful area to visit when you rent an RV near Medora is the Lake Ilo National Wildlife Refuge near Dunn Center. The lake is a gorgeous spot for some fishing with the opportunity to catch perch, bluegill, and northern pike. Multiple hiking trails will give you an excellent chance to see everything, and interpretive displays along the way will clue you in on interesting features like the stone tipi ring.

Explore the City

There’s a lot to keep you busy beyond the outdoors when renting an RV near Theodore Roosevelt National Park; you can learn about the culture and history of the area while you're here too. Try a regional delicacy like Pitchfork Steak Fondue or stop by the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame for some insight into the past. A celebration of the cowboy way of life, here you can see artifacts, displays, and memorabilia. Learn some rodeo clown facts too when you visit this 15,000-square-foot facility highlighting the Wild West.Another popular destination in Medora is the Chateau de Mores State Historic Site. Here you can take a tour around the mansion built as a vacation home for Marquis de Mores. Take a trip back to the late 1800s as you explore the historic furnishings. Less than a mile from the campsites at Red Trail Campground, you can check out Chimney Park, commemorating the old packing plant that burned down. Then wrap up your Medora explorations with a carriage ride around the Badlands for a memorable day.Make your way over to Dickinson so you can see everything the Dickinson Museum Center has to offer. The Badlands Dinosaur Museum is full of huge fossils with many full-size exhibits. The Joachim Regional Museum is another great spot to stop, where you can see artifacts and displays that can fill you in on the area's rich history and culture. Another place to visit here is the Pioneer Machinery Hall with its historical gadgets. The Prairie Outpost Park is a nice place for a relaxing walk. The park also offers guided tours so you can learn more about the topics highlighted within the center.
