The Great Outdoors

Donegal campers will be just a few minutes' drive from Kooser State Park. This 250-acre park consists of woodlands along Kooser Lake and Kooser Run, a small stream that runs through the park. This park is located high up in the Laurel Highlands at about 2,600 feet above sea level, meaning you'll be treated to some gorgeous mountain views. There are a few short trails here about two miles in length, which run along the river and lake. These bodies of water are ideal for fishing, and anglers will find bass, trout, and bluegill in these waterways. During the winter, this park becomes an excellent spot for winter sports, including cross-country skiing.Another popular park in the Laurel Highlands is Laurel Hill State Park. This vast state park covers over 4,000 acres of mountains with Laurel Hill Lake located centrally in the park. This 63-acre lake is great for watersports, and there's a 1,200-foot sandy beach, which is ideal for swimming and relaxing. Boating and fishing are also favorite pastimes, and anglers can expect to reel in sunfish, bass, and perch. The park's two smaller streams yield similar catches to the lake. If you'd prefer to explore dry land, there are 15 miles of trails that lead along mountain paths and by the lake.Ohiopyle State Park is one of the most popular parks in the region for a good reason. This 20,000-acre park features the Laurel Highlands as a beautiful backdrop, with lush woodlands and the Youghiogheny River and Gorge providing a centerpiece for the park. The Youghiogheny River contains rapids, which are ideal for whitewater rafting, and this is one of the most popular rafting locations in the country. The river is also great for fishing, and it is known as an excellent spot to catch trout. You can also get lost in nature by exploring the park's 79 miles of trail. While strolling along these pathways, keep an eye out for local wildlife, including river otters, bobcats, and deer.

Exploring the City

While you'll no doubt want to visit Pittsburgh during your trip with a campervan rental near Donegal, you may want to visit some local attractions first. The Living Treasures Animal Park is located in nearby Jones Mills and features hundreds of animals, both local and exotic. This small zoo has some interesting critters, including Asian tigers, spider monkeys, and zebu. If you're looking to create a once-in-a-lifetime memory, the zoo uniquely offers sloth encounters, where visitors can hold and feed one of Mother Nature's strangest yet most adorable creatures.Pittsburgh is well-worth visiting while renting an RV near Donegal and contains some of the state's best attractions. The Andy Warhol Museum is the largest museum in the U.S. to focus solely on one artist, with seven floors dedicated to this pop art giant. There's everything from installations to photographs featured, as well as world-famous paintings such as Campbell's Soup Cans and portraits of Elvis and Marilyn Monroe. Visitors can even have a go at creating their own pop art at The Factory.Pittsburgh has some museums that are both fun and informative, and another example is the Carnegie Science Center. This science museum has an amazing collection of exhibits, with everything from robotics to miniature railroads. One of the museum's best attractions is the USS Requin, a submarine docked outside the museum that visitors can explore. If you want to relax, catch a show at the giant cinema or gaze at the stars at the planetarium.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
