Perfect for stealthy urban camping, this vintage 87 VW Vanagon is your ticket to ride the California swells. Fully restored with reliable mechanicals, this "Weekender" edition features the best seven seater setup with two rear facing jump seats and foldout bed. The jump seats can be removed before rental for more cargo room, and there's a fold out table for your favorite grinds. This van has a Thule Surf rack with an extendable bar for drying wetsuits, full black out windows and a detachable curtain set for extra privacy. Perfect for a quick trip up the coast, or as a spectacularly rad substitute for a rental car on your next SoCal surf trip. Longboards fit inside easily for overnight hotel stays, or park it in the San O line for a budget surf vacation.The engine and transmission on this van have both been rebuilt, and it rides tight on oversize 15" rims and super smooth Michelin tires. Just check of the list of what you want (fees apply) and we'll handle the rest.Other things to notePlease keep in mind that this is a vintage rig, max highway speed is 65 mph, and even with all the upgrades and a perfectly tuned stock engine, the van is quite slow up hills (45-50 mph) and climbing steep grades should be avoided whenever possible. Please note that travel on or over the "grapevine" is strictly forbidden (the pass on the 5 freeway between LA and Bakersfield), so if you're traveling the coast, the 101 should be your route of choice.This is a manual (stick shift) vehicle. You must be able to proficiently pilot this vehicle in order to take possession at time or rental, and you should also be familiar with cab-over vehicle handling. Please DO NOT rent the van if you've never driven stick, or if you are out of practice or are unsure of your ability to drive a manual. These are not performance vehicles - they are vintage beach cruisers and must be treated with love & care.No smoking at all (of any kind) inside the van, and pets are also not allowed.

My wife Amanda and I are the owners / founders of a small women's surf & swimwear brand called SEEA. Since moving to Southern California in 2010, we've been surfing at San Onofre and exploring the Pacific coast, from Baja up to Big Sur. We got our first VW in 2014, the same year our daughter was born. Since then, restoring VW's has been my main passion and hobby. Westfalia campers are truly unique vehicles, and there's simply nothing I like better than cruising the coast with my family in a well-tuned vintage van. As a natural extension of our own surf & travel adventures, the decision to share that stoke with others is a joyous one - so we're excited to introduce SAN-O VAN as a fun, alternative platform for your surf centric coast explorations.

The Van was in GREAT condition and drove like brand new. I had zero worries about taking the van anywhere. She held up great on my trip from San Clemente to San Diego and out to the mountains around Julian. There was plenty of room in the van for all of my stuff and it was a real head tuner on the mountain roads! Such a fun little few-day getaway and the perfect van to accompany us on our trip.

Brian is the best and most friendly guy ever, the van is gorgeous! Drives beautifully for an old girl, super smooth transmission and suspension. Such a comfy bed!
Outdoorsy, on the other hand, were extremely difficult to deal with (despite Brian and I both making extensive efforts to get some issues sorted).
So, overall 10/10 for Brian and the beautiful van, but 2/10 for Outdoorsy as a platform and app.

I packed as much fun as humanly possible into a two day Orange County trip, thanks to this dreamboat of a Vanagon. San Onofre surf session. El Moro Canyon hike. Shake Shack. Day trip to HB before a wedding in Laguna. I haven't lived in CA for 20 years, and this van was like a time portal to pure youthful joy. It ran perfectly, and had plenty of power. Driving a manual transmission again was a blast. Music up, windows down.... So. Much. Fun.
