The Dunagan Visitor Center offers information and exhibits on the natural and cultural history of the park area as well as its plants and animals. Recreational opportunities include hiking and horseback riding. Sand disks are available for rent. Ranger-led programs for all ages are offered throughout the year.Franklin Mountains State Park is also well worth a visit when you camp in an RV near Odessa. You can explore the mountains and mountaintop views. There are almost 100 miles of trails here. Guided hiking and biking tours are available. Climbing is permitted at McKelligon Canyon or Sneed’s Cory. Other recreational activities include geocaching, picnicking, bird watching, and nature observation. The park store offers merchandise, gifts, and souvenirs. Ranger-led programs for all ages include hikes, bikes, art-in-the-park activities, and more. The park is home to the annual Franklin Mountains Poppies Fest.You can also spend some time learning and exploring at Big Bend National Park with your Odessa rental motorhome. This national park holds evidence of nearly 12,000 years of human habitation. There are over 2,000 cataloged archaeological sites and almost 300,000 museum objects. Eight places in the park have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Fossil Discovery Exhibit contains exhibits and examples of the geology of the park. Visitor centers include the Panther Junction Visitor Center, the Chisos Basin Visitor Center, the Castolon Visitor Center, the Persimmon Gap Visitor Center, and the Rio Grande Village Visitor Center.
