The Great Outdoors

The massive Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge is a little way south along the coast and covers around 44,000 acres allowing you to see some of the native Texan wildlife. Something like 300 species of bird can be seen here, changing with the seasons as migratory birds come and go. The refuge is also home to large alligators, some as long as 12 feet! There are several hiking trails through the refuge, that can also be accessed on bikes. You can rent bicycles locally and then enjoy the 7.5-mile Big Slough Auto Tour. A self-guided brochure and CD for the tour is available from the Information Pavillion and Discovery Center.Just north of Houston is the Sam Houston National Forest. This massive protected area encompasses two vast lakes and over 160,000 acres of land. The forest and lakes offer numerous recreational activities, from fishing, hiking, and biking to boating. At 82,000 acres, Lake Livingston is the larger of the two in the north of the forest. Here, fishing and boating are popular. Anglers can catch a range of fish, including bass, crappie, and catfish, but it is mainly known for its black bass. Boats can be rented at various locations around the shore, to get you out on the water, or you can take a pleasure cruise to relax and watch the scenery go past.Within the forest, there are over 85 miles of trails to explore, either on foot, bike, or horse. You could spend several days completing the Lone Star Trail that meanders for over 128 miles through the forest or maybe complete shorter sections only. In the heart of the forest is the Four Notch Loop, a 10-mile hiking trail that allows you to explore the woods and take in some great views.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
