The Great Outdoors

Sabine National Forest is located a 90-minute drive east when you're RV camping at Rusk KOA. It is on the border with Louisiana, nestled on the shore of the Sabine River and Toledo Bend Reservoir, one of largest the reservoirs in the United States. Recreational opportunities here include swimming, boating, fishing, and other water sports. Try picnicking or camping in this beautiful forest, or go hiking and hunting year-round. In addition to scenic views, this forest is popular for nature and wildlife viewing due to the diverse range of animal species you can find here. Bring a camera, and you can capture some stunning photos while you're here.Angelina National Forest is only about 40 minutes' drive southeast of Rusk KOA. Covering over 100,000 acres of land, the forest borders the Angelina River, offering great fishing, canoeing, and kayaking opportunities. You can also go horseback riding, bicycling, or hiking on the well-marked trails that run throughout the forest. It's a great place for wildlife viewing and hunting. Some of the animals living here include deer, turkey, small game, waterfowl, feral hogs, migratory birds, and more.Davy Crockett National Forest is one of the biggest and most interesting natural parks in this part of Texas. It consists of more than 160,000 acres of woodland, streams, ponds, recreational areas, and wildlife habitat. Ratcliff Lake is a popular recreational stop in the forest, where you can enjoy camping, picnicking, swimming, fishing, and boating. There is a concession stand, an amphitheater, and an interpretive forest trail here too. For horseback riding, the best route is The Piney Creek Horse Trail, which has more than 50 miles of well-maintained and developed horse trails. Other interesting activities in the forest include hiking, bicycling, and hunting.

When RV camping at Rusk KOA, you can see beautiful East Texas and even learn about its history and culture by visiting the Museum for East Texas Culture in Palestine. The building housing the museum was built in 1915 as a high school. In 1986, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places and the museum was open in it. This incredible museum has collections of different artifacts, separated into thematic rooms including the Fire Department Room, Black History Room, Main Floor Hallway, Railroad Room, and School Room.The Texas State Railroad Rusk Depot is a unique place where you can see the exhibit and ride a vintage locomotive. Take a ride through beautiful nature while enjoying wine tasting or a pint of beer. The attraction offers different kinds of tours, as well as private parties and organized activities year-round. This journey is a great opportunity for you and your family to have fun while sightseeing in gorgeous natural surroundings. The train departs from Palestine or Rusk; check their calendar for all the events and activities on offer when you're RV camping in the area.The zip line tour destination in Jacksonville is an exciting and adventurous place where you can have fun all day. Only about 15 minutes' drive north of Rusk KOA, this place offers one of the longest zip lines in Texas, over 1,700 feet long.

What type of RV should I choose?

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
