The Great Outdoors

You’ll be near New River State Park when you are renting an RV here. This is a 57-mile linear park that follows an abandoned railroad right-of-way and the New River. Outdoor recreational opportunities include hiking, biking, and fishing. A downloadable trail map is offered. Picnic areas provide shelters, grills, and portable toilets. Guided horseback tours and canoe and bike rentals are available. Special events and educational programs for all ages take place throughout the year. The park also has a gift and souvenir shop.The 106-mile Blue Ridge Parkway begins at Milepost 0 in Afton, very close to your Fancy Gap/Blue Ridge Parkway KOA camping site. The Blue Ridge Parkway is divided into the Ridge region, the Plateau region, the Highlands region, and the Pisgah region. You can drive, hike, bike, or just explore the parkway. It is a very popular RV route, and there are services available along the way. Shenandoah National Park and Great Smoky Mountains National Park are the gateway parks at either end of the parkway. There are 15 visitor centers along the route offering interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, keepsakes and merchandise, restrooms, snacks, drinking water, and Junior Ranger programs. The Blue Ridge Pkwy Travel Planner app is downloadable, and there are also printed, printable, and downloadable maps available.Stone Mountain State Park is also easily accessible when you are camping with an RV near Fancy Gap, VA. It features a massive granite dome that overlooks a restored mid-1800’s mountain farm. It is part of a pluton, which is an igneous rock formed by molten lava beneath the earth’s surface. Exploring the Area

When you camp in an RV near Fancy Gap, you’ll also be close to the city of Mount Airy, NC, which was immortalized as “Mayberry” in the Andy Griffith Show. Attractions in Mount Airy include the Andy Griffith Museum, the Mayberry Replica Courthouse, and the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History. It’s also home to the area’s first legal distillery since Prohibition. Downtown Mount Airy has an excellent variety of antiques, boutiques, and restaurants. Don’t miss Miss Angel’s Heavenly Pies; both the pies and the ice cream are infused with real moonshine. Special events that take place here every year include Mayberry Days and the Autumn Leaves Festival. The Mount Airy News covers local news and events. Make sure to check out Visit Mayberry and the Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce for up-to-date information on area attractions, events, businesses, and tourism.The Blue Ridge Music Center is operated by the National Park Service, and the music programming is in partnership with the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation. Spend some time here with your campervan rental to learn and appreciate the area’s unique musical heritage, including bluegrass, old-time blues, Americana, gospel, and mountain music, with contributions from the African banjo and European violin. The Roots of American Music exhibition covers these extensively. There are concerts in the amphitheater at night and midday mountain music on the breezeway. The center is also part of the Blue Ridge Music Trails of North Carolina, the Blue Ridge Music Trails, and The Crooked Road: Virginia's Musical Heritage Trail.This is a very charming area, and you can spend some time enjoying the atmosphere at the locally owned and operated restaurants, which include diners, delis, and delicious home cooking when you’re camping at Fancy Gap/Blue Ridge Parkway KOA. You’ll probably need to refuel your RV while you are here and there are numerous service stations, truck stops, and convenience stores where you will be able to find either gasoline or diesel fuel easily.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
