Catching a free music festival is the perfect way to add an exciting new experience to your next summer camping trip. Renting an RV makes taking in the music even easier and more enjoyable.
Dozens of festivals of all sizes and genres take place across the country each year. A couple great free music festivals are FloydFest and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Here’s what you need to know about RV camping at these free summer festivals.
FloydFest is an annual summer festival that takes place in the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains near Floyd, Virginia. With a focus on world music, the festival boasts one of the most diverse musical lineups in the country. Floydfest takes place from July 27 to July 31 this year.
Headliners for 2016 include The George Allman Band, Leftover Salmon, and Railroad Earth. The festival also includes art, crafts, dance, yoga, storytelling, and more.
RV camping is made easy thanks to a number of campsites in close proximity. Two of the best are Rocky Knob Campground and Chantilly Farm Campground.
Telluride Bluegrass Festival
Telluride Bluegrass Festival is one of many annual summer festivals that take place in the popular ski town of Telluride, Colorado. Take in the twangs of bluegrass as you view the beauty of the surrounding San Juan Mountains, scattered with the ruins of old mining operations. The festival usually takes place in mid-June.
Telluride Bluegrass Festival is, as the name implies, all about bluegrass. However, musicians from related genres are often invited to perform. Headliners for 2016 include Dave Rawlings Machine, Greensky Bluegrass, and Leftover Salmon.
Pull your RV right up to the festival grounds and camp in one of the many sites located between zero and seven miles from the gates. Book early because these campsites are highly sought after (and beautiful!)
If the event campsites are booked, try nearby Matterhorn Campground, Sunshine Campground, or Woods Lake Campground. Free shuttles are available from the event to these sites until late at night.
