Introduction

Sitting within scenic open countryside that features prairie meadows and rolling hills, Benbrook Lake offers the perfect setting for adventurers and nature lovers to enjoy RV holidays and memorable time off. Located southwest of Fort Worth, Texas, this US Army Corps of Engineers park can be easily accessed by RV campers and visitors coming in their RVs, trailers and other motorized vehicles via US Highway 377 and Interstate Highway 20.
Opportunities for fun abound at Benbrook Lake. Whether your interests are water-based, or just pure nature observation, you’ll have a remarkable time outdoors at the park. Boating, scuba diving, wading, and snorkeling are popular ways for visitors to enjoy the park’s waters. Abundant fish species in the lake also open the door to angling at the park. Moreover, hikers, horseback riders, and bicyclists are presented with the opportunity to explore the trails available in the park. Other ways to stay active in the park are hunting, picnicking, and swimming. Nearby attractions are Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge and Cedar Hill State Park.
Tent, group, and RV camping options are available within the park’s campgrounds. Campsites with full hookups, partial hookups, and no hookups are also present within the park. Modern camping amenities and parking options are also on hand for use by vacationers.

Transportation

Driving

Located southwest of Fort Worth, in Texas, Benbrook Lake can be easily accessed by RVs, trailers, and other motorized vehicles via the Interstate 20 and Highway 377 as well as other minor and local access roads. RV rentals are available east of the park at Fort Worth and Cedar Hill State Park.

Parking

Parking spaces are available for vacationers and visitors at and around Benbrook Lake for RVs, trailers, and cars at the campground and recreation areas. Overnight parking facilities are also available.

Public Transportation

Public transportation services are available at Benbrook; however, none leads to the park.

Reservations camping

Holiday Campground

Sitting on the west side of Benbrook Lake, Holiday Campground is a pet-friendly campground with campsites open year-round and available by reservation as well as on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground features open shorelines, wooded bottoms, upland prairie, and rocky hillsides.
There are 105 campsites at the campground that offer group, tent, and RV camping options. Seventy-nine campsites are available for RVs and trailers, all equipped with electric hookup options. Seventy-five campsites have water hookups. Amenities include restrooms with showers, covered tables, cookers, boat ramps, and parking pads. Dump stations and a fishing pier are also available.
RV/trailer length limit at the campground is 145 feet.

Bear Creek Campground

Sitting on the south side of Benbrook Lake, Bear Creek Campground is a pet-friendly campground with campsites open between April and September and available by reservation. The campground features wooded hillsides and prairies.
There are 47 campsites at the campground that offer group, tent, and RV camping options. All the campsites are equipped with electric hookup options. Only one campsite does not have water hookups, while two sites have sewer hookups. Amenities include restrooms with showers, covered tables, cookers, boat ramps, and parking pads.
The RV/trailer length limit at the campground is 85 feet.

Rocky Creek Park

Sitting on the east side of Benbrook Lake, Rocky Creek Park is a pet-friendly campground with campsites open between April and September and available by reservation. Hiking, horseback riding, picnicking, and fishing are popular activities at the campground.

There are 10 campsites at the campground, as well as one group shelter. There are no hookups at the campground. However, amenities such as potable water, boat ramps, and vault toilets are available.

RV/trailer length limit at the campground is 50 feet.

Seasonal activities in Benbrook Lake

In-Season

Boating

There are boat launch ramps available within this US Army COE park, as well as the two marinas open for use by RV vacationers and visitors. The boat launch ramps also feature courtesy docks. These facilities and the park’s fascinating waters make boating in the park a popular recreational activity among guests. An added benefit that boating enthusiasts enjoy at the park is that they can enjoy the use of the ramps all year. Boaters are required to adhere to the low-speed “No Wake” zones at the ramps.

Fishing

Plenty of excellent fishing opportunities are available at Benbrook Lake, particularly because the park is located within an urban setting. The lake in the park is stocked, every once in a while, by Texas Parks and Wildlife and was one of the first lakes in the State stocked with Florida-strain largemouth bass. Fish species present within the lake include white bass, crappie, flathead catfish, channel catfish, and buffalo. All these fish and many more occur in abundant quantities, inviting anglers to explore the waters.

Trails

Hikers experience so much fun on several trails available for outdoor exploration at Benbrook Lake. The three popular trails in the park are the Fort Worth Trinity Trail, Crest of Benbrook Dam, and Holiday Park Nature Trail and Photo Blind.
Just north of the Benbrook Lake Dam is the link to the twenty-five miles of trails that hikers can explore at Fort Worth, featuring beautiful tree canopies along the trail. Bicyclists and joggers also join hikers in enjoying the walk on the Benbrook Lake dam.

Off-Season

Hunting

Hunting opportunities are open to RV campers and visitors at Benbrook Lake that fancy going after game. At the park, hunters can hunt deer, turkey, and hog by archery only. Other game species available can be hunted using shotguns.
When deer and waterfowl hunting, the use of natural hunting blinds is allowed, as long as they are made of portable blinds or loose materials. Sport chasing is prohibited in the park. Moreover, areas with “No Hunting” signs should not be used by hunting enthusiasts.

Swimming

Two areas at Benbrook Lake – Mustang Park and North Holiday Day Use Area, feature developed swim beaches, offering the opportunity for RV campers and visitors who love to swim the chance to enjoy this recreational activity.
No lifeguards are provided at any of the beaches in the park. Thereforeswimmers are advised to be safe and supervise children closely. Also, visitors are encouraged to swim in only designated locations. Snorkeling, wading, and scuba diving are also common in the park.

Horseback Riding

Horseback riders love to visit Benbrook Lake due to the presence of a 14-mile equestrian and hiking trail that’s part of the National Trails System. If you’re a horseback rider, you can kickstart your riding adventure at the trailhead at the Holiday Campground in the park, or join the trail at the Holiday Park Day Use Area. Equestrian camping is available at the park. Riders should stick to the designated trails and use the provided water troughs in the park.
