Introduction

Blue Springs Lake is a 720-acre lake in Fleming Park in Jackson County, Missouri. Based around the lake, most of the activity here is water-based. At this Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds, day visitors and campers can look forward to swimming, boating, water skiing, tubing, jet skiing, and fishing at Blue Springs Lake.
A one-acre public beach is a popular spot to hang out in the summer months. There are also six picnic shelters scattered around the lake. Thinking of taking an RV trip? Blue Springs Lake also offers a tent and RV camping spot that’s open seasonally - from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Anglers will enjoy fishing for bluegill, largemouth bass, carp, catfish, and hybrid striped bass here. Bait and tackle are available on-site.
Rent a boat or bring your own and enjoy a fantastic holiday on the water. An annual slip rental is available in the park and all sorts of water sports, from swimming and canoeing, to kayaking and water skiing, are popular in the summer months. Please note that boat and motor permits are required.

Transportation

Driving

Blue Springs Lake can be found off the I-470 in Fleming Park, Jackson County, Missouri. The closest big town to the park is Kansas City, about a half-hour drive away. Take the Lakewood/Bowlin Road exit and follow Bowlin Road until you reach the lake and the marina.

The turn-off to the campground can be found to the left before you reach the marina. The main loops in the campground are paved and there are both drive-in and pull-through sites available for RVs.

Keep an eye out for children playing and low-hanging branches

Blue Springs Lake Campground

The modern Blue Springs Campground, one of the COE parks, offers a choice of 82 campsites for tents and RVs, just five minutes from the lake itself.
There are 30 full hookup sites for RVs (electric, water, and sewerage hookups), 13 with electric and water hookups, and 39 with electric hookups only. With campsites up to 79 feet in length, most are accessible with a large RV.
There are also modern restrooms with toilets and showers. Other facilities within the camping loops include a children’s playground, picnic tables, a laundry station, an attendant on duty, and a dump station. Firewood and ice is available.
This RV campground near Blue Springs Lake is open from April to September each year. This COE campground is pet-friendly for a maximum of three pets. They must be kept on a leash at all times.

Seasonal activities in Blue Springs Lake

In-Season

Boating

The 720-acre Blue Springs Lake is a hive of activity for boating enthusiasts. Bring your own powerboat along to launch at the slipway, or rent a boat from the marina. Jet skiing, water skiing, canoeing, and kayaking are all popular on the lake.

Please note that boat and motor permits are required for boating at Blue Springs Lake. Other facilities include lakeside gasoline pumps and fishing equipment.

Fishing

Fishermen will be in their element at Blue Springs Lake in Jackson County. Common fish you can expect to catch here include largemouth bass, channel catfish, flathead catfish, common carp, black and white crappie, and hybrid striped bass. A fishing cleaning station, as well as bait and tackle, are available at the marina.

Water Sports

You can enjoy a whole host of water sports on Blue Springs Lake, whether you’re staying overnight or just visiting for the day. Windsurfing can be enjoyed from Monday to Thursday from sunrise and sunset. Please ensure you are wearing a life jacket that’s approved by the US Coast Guard. Other water sports include boating, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, and tubing.

Off-Season

Hiking

The tree-lined shores of Blue Springs Lake are fantastic for a leisurely walk or stroll. Hiking at Blue Springs Lake can be enjoyed on one of two trails: the four-mile (6.5 km) double-track Lake Vista Trail (easy) or the 4.4 mile (7.2 km) single-track North Shore Trail (easy to intermediate). Dogs are allowed on this trail, provided they’re kept on a leash. Please note that both trails are open to mountain bikers so be prepared to share the trail with them.

Mountain Biking

The shoreline around Blue Springs Lake offers a choice of two dedicated mountain biking trails. Opt for the four-mile (6.5 km) double-track Lake Vista Trail that offers an easy and scenic ride. Alternatively, if you’re looking for something a bit more challenging there is the 4.4 mile (7.2 km) single-track North Shore Trail (easy to intermediate). Please note that you will be sharing this track with pedestrians and dog walkers.

Picnics

With six picnic shelters scattered around Blue Springs Lake, there is plenty of opportunity for a scenic picnic all year round. During the summer months, they’re great spots for enjoying the lake. During the offseason, they still offer some great views of the lake. Bring a flask with hot chocolate to warm up. Facilities at the shelters include picnic tables and fire grids.
