Driving

Close to 1-40, Bluewater Lake State Park is only miles west of Grants and nearby Fort Wingate and Gallup. You’ll find that this RV destination makes for a great getaway if you live Alburquerque, New Mexico, as the state park is less than a two-hour drive. Get ready to navigate some steep hills when trying to access the state park. When driving at Bluewater Lake State Park, be prepared for some rocky terrain and, therefore, drive a little slower than average. The perfect getaway for a peaceful trip in nature in your RV!

Parking

Some of the best camping in New Mexico, you’ll be glad that you traveled in your camper to this gem of a park. When you arrive at Bluewater Lake State Park, check in with the park office to see what spots are available for camping and to pick up a park map. With friendly staff, the rangers can answer any questions you have during your stay. Each of the four campgrounds is small in size, so be prepared for small camping sites. Don’t forget to bring your leveling blocks as you may need them depending on which campground you decide to camp at during your stay.

Grants / Cibola Sands KOA

Home to the New Mexico Mining Museum, Grants, NM, is surrounded by natural wonders and brilliant Native American History. Grants/Cibola Sands KOA is a perfect base to explore the Acoma Pueblo, the El Morro National Monument, and the Bandera Crater and Ice Caves, all less than an hour away. Pull-through sites can host big rigs up to 85 feet. Find a nice spot with water and electric hookups or take advantage of one of the full hook-up sites with up to 50-amp electrical service. Eat healthy at the Kamping Kitchen or snack bar, restock your propane and firewood, and stay connected with Wi-Fi and cable TV. Pets are welcome.

Pinon Cliffs Campground

A great place for all outdoor enthusiasts! With 14 spots providing electric hookups, this campground offers water spigots, dump station and group campsites. There is a bathhouse on site providing flush toilets, hot showers, and vault toilets. With close knit spots, this campground sites are tight and open to first-come, first-served.

Lakeside Campground

Enjoy waking up next to the water at this RV campsite. A cozy location with only eight full-hookup spots. This campground offers flush toilets, hot showers, potable water, and picnic tables. You can not reserve a spot at this campsite in advance, so don’t wait and get here today.

Canyonside Campground

Bring Fido along as you’ll be glad that you camped at this little slice of heaven at this campground. With four partial hookups for campers to select from, do not wait on camping at this site as it is first-come, first-served.

Northpoint Campground

You’ll be in awe from the amazing views of the Zuni Mountains and Bluewater Lake from your RV. There are 10 sites to select from at this peaceful campground that give you access to not only the state park but also the water.

Picnicking

Bluewater Lake State Park offers many fantastic locations for you to take a break from the water or the trails and enjoy a picnic. Relax as you take in the sick views of the Zuni Mountains and the majestic Bluewater Lake. All tables are first-come, first-served, but if you are hosting a group such as a birthday party or a reunion, there is a picnic shelter for visitors to reserve in advance.

Getting Out on Bluewater Lake

Take a break from your RV camping site as you head out to Bluewater Lake for some fun in the sun. Boats, both motorized and non-motorized, are welcome on the lake as boat ramps are available. From sailing or water skiing to paddling in your kayak, get ready to have a great experience during your camping trip to Bluewater Lake State Park. Come and see a spectacular site for birding in New Mexico!
