De La Republique Provincial Park is situated just outside the city which rests on the border of New Brunswick and Quebec, Edmundston. Located just 12 km (or 8 miles) from the park, it is a short trip from Edmundston to this recreational area. To go to the park, follow the Transcanada Hwy/NB 2W to exit 8. Take the exit and continue until you see your destination. This stretch of highway is two lanes with traffic moving at a moderate pace. The roads are kept in good condition, and the municipality stays on top of keeping the highway free from snow and dirt year-round. Construction does occur during the summer months, so be prepared to experience delays. Wildlife sometimes attempts to cross the highway; exercise caution when driving to avoid an accident.

To reach De La Republique Provincial Park from Fredericton, NB, the route will cover 281 km (175 miles). Begin by following Transcanada Hwy/NB-2 W towards Edmundston. Take exit 8 and continue until you spot your destination. The highway from Fredericton alternates between two and four lanes and can experience some congestion during busy times of year. The roads are in good condition and are well-maintained year round. Wildlife has been known to enter the roadway, so motorists should remain alert at all times. Road construction may occur throughout the summer months.

Reservations camping

De La Republique Provincial Park Campground

De La Republique Provincial Park is home to a campground which offers 150 campsites that are suitable for both RV and tent camping. 100 of the campsites offer electric hookups with the others being completely unserviced. There are also several rustic shelters that families can enjoy for a Canadian wilderness experience. Reservations are highly recommended for RV and tent stays between June and October each year.

Generator use is permitted on the grounds. In addition to this, pets are also welcome but must remain on a leash.

There are many amenities at De La Republique Provincial Park Campground. These include hiking and cycling trails, volleyball and tennis courts, several playgrounds, horseshoe pits, a boat ramp, picnic tables and shelters, laundry facilities, an indoor playroom, a heated pool, and a convenience store. Also available on the property is a convenience store and an amphitheater.

In-Season

New Brunswick Botanical Garden

Located on the same property as De La Republique Provincial Park, you will find the New Brunswick Botanical Garden. In operation for several decades, this gardeners' haven is home to ll themed gardens and two arboretums for families to explore. The gardens are spread out over eight hectares (20 acres) of property which rests along the coast of the Madawaska River.

Among the most popular attractions at this outdoor wonderland include the medicinal garden, the herbalist's shop, and the horticulture and culinary workshops.

There is also a cafe housed on the grounds where families can enjoy nutritious meals prepared with local and seasonal ingredients. For those wishing to take a memento home from their visit to the gardens, there is a gift shop.

Cycling

De La Republique Provincial Park houses a network of trails that are ideal for hiking and cycling. The trails are well-marked and travel through terrain that alternates between hills and flatlands. Families can meander along paths with breathtaking views of the Madawaska River and stop for a drink or snack at the overlook that prominently displays the area's waterfalls.

Off-Season

Antique Auto Museum

Just a short drive from De La Republique Provincial Park, you will find the Antique Auto Museum. A facility dedicated to showcasing auto masterpieces from days gone by, the museum prominently features such rare items as a Bricklin, a rare vehicle of local New Brunswick construction. There were only 2,880 manufactured.

Among some of the most notable vehicles housed in the museum are a 1928 Ford Model A, a 1933 Rolls-Royce Phantom, and a 1937 Diamond T fire truck.

A building which contains two floors, the second floor is the area where the oldest cars are on display.

Hiking
