Introduction

Ready for your next RV adventure? Why not take a trip to Gregoire Lake Provincial Park? You will enjoy Canadian Prairie camping at its finest.

Located only 19 km (12 miles) from the bustling industrial metropolis of Fort McMurray, Gregoire Lake Provincial Park is a popular place for families looking for the perfect spot for a relaxing getaway. Gregoire Lake was originally named Willow Lake but was renamed in 1940. In 1995, the province of Alberta made the decision to return Gregoire Lake to its original name. Today, the lake is referenced by both titles.

Gregoire Lake Provincial Park is blanketed by areas of thick forest of mixed species of trees. The property rests in a section of the Athabasca River Basin. Its marshy grounds offer varied terrain and breathtaking views of the nearby mountain ranges and lush vegetation, making it an idyllic spot for doing some hiking.

The earliest inhabitants of the region were the Woodland Cree and Chipewyan Indians. In the late 18th century, the area was a popular spot for fur trading. Alexander Mackenzie sailed the Athabasca River on his exploratory tours of the Pacific and Arctic Oceans. He was the first of many prominent explorers to sail this region's rivers in search of adventure.

Gregoire Lake Provincial Park opened to the public in 1973 and remains a popular spot for outdoor activities and RV and tent camping. Among the most popular attractions include fishing, swimming, geocaching, horseshoes, powerboating, and watersports. In the winter months, the trails are ideal for cross county skiing, and there are areas nearby where snowmobiling is permitted.

Whether you visit in spring, summer, winter, or fall, you won't be disappointed with a trip to Gregoire Lake Provincial Park. It's an amazing place for an RV holiday.
