Introduction

Sitting on the floodplain of the White and Black Rivers in the Mississippi Alluvial Plain, Jacksonport State Park features trees associated with bottomland hardwood forest such as bald cypress, cottonwood, sycamore, red maple and white oak, which make it a great spot to enjoy RV holidays. Located off Arkansas 69, in Jacksonport, Arkansas, this 164.7-acre state park was established in 1965 and features an 1872 courthouse where campers and visitors will find exhibits that showcase the story of the Jacksonport’s historic river port.

Activities to enjoy at Jacksonport State Park include hiking, bird watching, boating, fishing, historic site visits, picnicking, swimming, wildflower viewing, and wildlife viewing. The campground in the park consists of 20 campsites available for RV camping and tent camping, and equipped with electric and water hookups for RVs. An ADA accessible campsite is also available in the park. Pets are allowed in the park.

The park which sits at an elevation of 226 feet features a Visitor Center with river overlook, a reservable Multi-Purpose Room with Catering Kitchen, and an Outdoor Classroom, standard pavilion, picnic sites, playground, and the Tunstall Riverwalk Trail to stroll alongside the river. The half-mile long Tunstall Riverwalk Trail offers hiking breathtaking views of the wildflowers in the Tunstall Riverwalk Conservation Area in spring and summer.

Driving

Jacksonport State Park is located off Arkansas 69, in Jacksonport, Arkansas, just three miles north of Newport. The park is easily accessible by RVs, trailers, and cars and can be accessed either by paved roads or gravel road. All the areas in the park are connected by local paved roads and there are no driving restrictions for RVs and trailers.

Parking

There is one parking lot in Jacksonport State Park, and it is located at the campground, hence campers at the park do not have to worry about finding space for their rigs when at the park. Overnight parking facilities are also available at the park.

Public Transportation

There are no public transportation facilities available at Jacksonport State Park.

Jacksonport Campground

Jacksonport Campground in Jacksonport State Park features 20 standard pet-friendly campsites available for RVs and tents. One of the campsites is ADA accessible. All the campsites are equipped with electric and water hookups for RVs. RV length limit at the campground is 45 feet. Amenities at the campground, and within the vicinity of the campground include a bath house, parking lot, trailer dump station, playground, restrooms, and a picnic area. The campground is accessible by the local road in the park. All the campsites in the campground are reservable.

In-Season

Hiking

The half-mile long Tunstall Riverwalk Trail in Jacksonport State Park offers RV campers and visitors at the park the opportunity to hike along the banks of the White River, while enjoying the scenic views of the river and the breathtaking sight of the trees and wildflowers in the park. Campers enjoy hiking on the trail because it is an easy trail that starts from the boat launch area in the park and ends at the park campground. So, prepare to have a memorable hiking experience on Tunstall Riverwalk on your RV vacation at Jacksonport State Park.

Birding

Jacksonport State Park features excellent locations for bird watching, such as the park campground, the Tunstall River Walk, and the undeveloped area of the park around the boat ramp. Some of the birds that you can sight in the park include woodpeckers, orioles, heron, hawks, kestrel, pigeons, doves, flycatchers. A favorite feeding area for birds is the Tunstall River Walk along the White River.

Fauna

Jacksonport State Park contains varieties of trees associated with bottomland hardwood forest such as bald cypress, cottonwood, sycamore, red maple and white oak. These trees form wonderful canopies for RV campers on vacation at the park and beautiful nature sights. During spring and summer, campers also enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the Tunstall Riverwalk Conservation Area wildflowers in the park.

Off-Season

Swimming

Jacksonport State features a swim beach where RV campers and vacationer at the park can enjoy swimming and the freshness of the open beach on the shore of 1,162 km long White River. Swimming is free at the beach, however, there are no lifeguards on duty, hence caution is recommended for all swimmers in the beach.

Picnicking

A shaded picnic area within a stone’s throw of White River in Jacksonport State Park offers a fun place for RV campers to enjoy picnics with family and friends in the park. The proximity of the waterfront from the picnic area offers campers the opportunity to watch the river and enjoy the view as they enjoy their meals.

Park Programs/Events

Jacksonport State Park offers a variety of programs for campers and visitors to enjoy throughout the year. These programs include children’s programs, campground programs, and weekend programs, as well as special events designed to enhance the pleasurable experience of campers.
