Introduction

Located on the 58,000 acre Sardis Lake in northern Mississippi, John W Kyle State Park is the perfect destination for RV campers looking for an aquatic getaway. You’ll find some of the best fishing in the area, with crappie, catfish, and black bass populating the waters of the lake. There’s also plenty of room out on the lake for water and jet skiing, as well as canoeing and kayaking. The park has dedicated swimming areas as well, where you can relax and enjoy hot Southern summer days.

The park is home to Mallard Pointe Golf Course, a Championship course with holes that stretch along the shore of Sardis Lake. The course was rated as a top golfing destination by Golf Digest. The park also has a tennis court, as well as an event center where you can host reunions or get togethers and that can be reserved in advance.

The campground in the park has 200 sites for you to pick from for your rig. All of the sites have electrical hookups, with many also featuring water and sewer hookups. You can also choose a site with a view of the lake.

Transportation

Driving

John W Kyle State Park is located in northern Mississippi, and is within driving distance of multiple major cities in the region. The campsites are easy to access as well, as the campground is close to the park’s entrance.

If you are driving from Memphis, take I-69 and I-55 and you will reach the park in around an hour. From Nashville, take I-40 west out of the city and you will get to the park in four hours. Coming from Jackson, take I-55 north and you will arrive at the park in around two and a half hours.

The park has few roads, making it easy to get straight to your campsite from the park’s entrance. Some of the spots at the back of the campground may be hard to reach if you have a large campervan, so you should book a site closer to the entrance of the campground.

John W Kyle State Park Campground

The campground has 16 premium sites with electrical, water, and sewer hookups. There are 184 standard sites that have electrical hookups, with some of the sites also featuring water and sewer hookups. All of the sites in the campground are pet-friendly. However, dogs must be kept on a leash at all times.

The sites are all within distance of restrooms, as well as a dump station. You’ll also be close to the park’s boat launches and the ranger station. A few of the sites are directly on the water, and the rest are just a quick walk from the shore.

The campground is open year round. Reservations for all of the sites can be made online up to two years in advance, for a maximum stay of 14 nights. Although the campground is quite large, you should still try to book as early as possible, as the sites fill up quickly during the summer.

In-Season

Fishing

John W Kyle State Park is a great destination for anglers. The waters of Sardis Lake are packed with crappie, black bass, and catfish, and you’ll get plenty of activity no matter what time of year you fish. There are boat ramps if you want to bring your own boat.

When fishing in the park, you’ll need to follow all state fishing regulations. The daily creel limit for black bass is 10 per person. For crappie, the daily creel limit is 15 per person. You’ll also need to get a Mississippi state fishing license, which can be purchased from the park office.

Water Activities

John W Kyle State Park is a popular waterside retreat, with one of the best lakes in the area for water activities. The lake allows motorized boats, so you can water and jet ski any time of year. You can also use a speed boat on the lake.

Sardis Lake has over 58,000 acres of water, so you’ll have no problems finding space on even the most popular summer days. The wide boat ramps also make it easy to get your vessel from your rig to the water.

Swimming

The 58,000 acres of Sardis Lake also make for great swimming. You’ll have plenty of space to enjoy your swim without being bothered by boaters or fishermen. There is also a swimming pool, if you want to get some laps in during your stay at the park.

You can quickly access the lake from the campground. You’ll also find a number of picnic tables and a pavilion near the lake, if you want to relax and eat after your swim.

Off-Season

Golfing

John W Kyle State Park is home to Mallard Pointe Golf Course, which will keep golf loving RV campers happy throughout their stay. The 18-hole Championship course is perfect for golfers of all skill levels. You can also come watch a golf tournament at the course, as there are multiple events held throughout the year.

The course has a full featured practice area, with a driving range, chipping and putting green, and practice fairway bunker. There is also a pro shop where you can buy any golf gear you may need.

Walking

Sardis Lake is also a great place for a stroll. Take a walk along the shoreline of the lake and enjoy the cool breeze coming off the water. There’s a variety of bird species that visit the park throughout the year, many of which spend most of their time along the shore of the lake.

There are also picnic areas near the shore, if you want to rest and enjoy views of the lake while you eat. You can also walk over to the tennis courts or pool, as well as the pavilion near the lake.

Events

The park also features a large ballroom, making it a great place for reunions and get togethers. The dining room can accommodate up to 96 people, and you can use the space outside the event center to enjoy the cool summer nights.

If you plan on using the ballroom, you’ll need to book well in advance, as it’s quite popular during summer months. You can reserve the space by calling the park office.
