Driving

The nearest town to the park is the small town of Falmouth, Kentucky, located less than five miles south of the campgrounds. The road to accessing the campground is considered a little narrow by some and does not provide a usable shoulder as a resource. This park is regarded as a rustic camping facility; be aware that many of the internal roads are likely to require some patience to navigate. The campsites with electricity are not entirely level and may cause difficulty for parking larger RVs. Consider packing leveling blocks to make the parking part of your trip a little easier. Seasonal activities in Kincaid Lake State Park

Off-Season

Fishing

Take time to enjoy one of America's favorite pastimes as you explore the tranquility and beauty of Kincaid Lake. This fantastic fishing spot is a boon for either experienced anglers or those wanting to try their hand at this popular sport. You can cast your line from either a boat or the lakeside and catch your dinner! This lake has healthy and active populations of largemouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill, sunfish, and crappie. Anglers will need to acquire a valid fishing license before heading out to fish, but bait and tackle can be purchased at the marina for those who are lacking either.

Exploring the 1878 Boston Steele Log House

Kincaid Lake State Park is a wonderful destination for history lovers. Take a step back in time and visit one of the oldest homes in the county, the 1878 Boston Steele Log House. Aside from its age, the original structure offers park guests an opportunity to see how homes were constructed at a time when there were limited resources in the area. Even though nails were a commodity in the late 1800s in Pendleton County, homes were still constructed, but instead of using metal nails to fasten the logs together, a peg and joint method helped secure one log to another. The Boston Steele Log House is one of the few structures built without nails remaining in Kentucky. The home is a must-see for people who want to see a reminder of how simplicity and innovation helped to support Kentucky's growth.

Hiking

Stretch your legs as you travel the meandering paths that guide you through the untouched wilderness of this 850-acre Kentucky state park. Take time to hike the Spicebush and Ironwood Trails, which offer visitors over two miles of connected loop trails to explore. A good combination of easy and moderate, these trails are great for all activity levels. Pack your hiking shoes in your campervan so you can head out to the trails to take in the beauty of Kincaid Lake State Park.

Hunting

Hunting enthusiasts who want to hunt deer in Kincaid Lake State Park will want to prepare ahead of time. While hunting in this state park is prohibited in most circumstances, special state park quota hunts are allowed in the fall and winter to ensure that the deer population doesn’t become too large for the ecosystem to support. There are typically less than a dozen slots available for each of the quota hunts, but there may be multiple hunts per year. Hunters will want to get their application into the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources as soon as possible, often up to a year in advance of the actual hunt.

In-Season

Boating

Enjoy an afternoon out on Kincaid Lake in a rowboat, pedal boat, motorboat, or pontoon boat at this awesome state park. The marina, which is one of the main attractions at the lake, is open during the summer months, from May until the end of September. It offers boat rentals during that time, including pedal boats, pontoons, rowboats, and motorboats. There is also a paved ramp available that is suitable for launching any trailered recreational boat. Swimming is not allowed in Kincaid Lake, but there is a modern swimming pool with lifeguards at the state park for visitors to enjoy. You’ll have a great time boating on this beautiful lake!

Playing Miniature Golf

Have a unique camping experience by playing a game of miniature golf during your stay at this great Kentucky park. A fun-filled activity for guests of all ages, the quaint nine-hole miniature golf course is located under the trees right next to the recreation center, nearby the main campground. This outdoor course is only open during the daytime in the summer, from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and there is a small fee for each person who is playing. There are also covered benches to relax on for group members who prefer to observe rather than participate.

Swimming

Make sure that your swimsuit is in your trailer before you leave home so that you can take a dip in the Kincaid Lake State Park swimming pool! This lakeside swimming pool is a fantastic way to cool off in the heat of the summer. Trained lifeguards monitor the pool, helping to keep swimmers safe. A modern bathhouse serves the pool, providing a comfortable place to change and shower after your fun in the sun. Overnight campers at the Kincaid Lake Campground receive a discount for admission for this thoroughly modern amenity, which is typically open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Grab your towel and your sunscreen, and have a great time!

Birding

Campers who enjoy birdwatching will want to be sure that their birding kit is with them if they are making a stop at Kincaid Lake State Park. Hundreds of avian species can be spotted in this bountiful wilderness, including several that on the critically endangered list for the state of Kentucky. Aside from the more common mallards and wood ducks that you might spot floating on the lake, you may be lucky enough to spot a hooded merganser or a blue-winged teal. Some fairly rare species of shorebird hunt for fish along the edge of the lake as well, including birds like great egrets and little blue herons.
