Introduction

Martinak State Park is a majestic setting in Maryland facilitating RV camping and a massive array of recreational options all year round. Martinak is located in Caroline County on the border of the Choptank River and Watts Creek. This riverfront RV park possesses unparalleled natural beauty and scenic charms. The park’s different habitats include forests, marshlands, and lush green fields nurturing various species of wildlife and birds.

This 107-acre park is an RV camper’s paradise featuring a campground with 63 campsites in two loops and various amenities like electric hookups, pet friendliness, and facilities for the disabled. RV campers can enjoy a multitude of recreational activities like hiking, boating, fishing, visiting the nature center, and attending various seasonal events and celebrations. RV campers can also claim a picnic spot near the Choptank River from among multiple picnic tables and a picnic pavilion.

The park is named after George Martinak, a passionate camper himself, who gave away his land for this state park. In George Martinak’s times, until 1961, this land was used as a hunting and fishing spot for the exclusive use of Martinak himself. The park is open year-round for camping and other recreations. Guests can also enjoy the comforts of camping cabins. The park is open year-round from sunrise to sunset. Busiest camping season is from April to October.

Martinak State Park is located in Maryland’s Caroline County. RV campers will have no major difficulty reaching the park as it is located near the popular Choptank River. Denton is located just a few miles north of the park.

The park is a small one, less than 200 acres in area, so campers do not have to drive far to get from place to place. The park has suitable parking arrangements. Towed parking is also allowed. Park only in designated lots and campsites. The campsites are long but a bit narrow so very wide RVs may have a problem in getting easily parked. However, the sites are well-paved and level.

Martinak State Park Campground

Martinak State Park is home to a 63-site campground for RV camping. The entire campground is divided into two loops: Camp Loop A and Camp Loop B. Electric sites are housed in Camp Loop B. All campsites can also be used for tent camping as well.

A complimentary camping pad, picnic table, and fire ring are offered with each campsite. Thirty campsites also feature 30-amp electric hookups. No water and sewer hookups are available, but arrangements have been made for water and sanitation. Potable water is provided at every camping loop, and a dump station is also available in the campground just outside Camp Loop B. Restrooms and play equipment are offered at each camping loop.

Loop A comprises sites 31-60, out of which 37, 38, 51, and 52 are handicap accessible. Camp Loop B comprises sites 1 to 30. Sites numbered two to five are ADA accessible.

You can reserve a campsite up to one year in advance. A camping party of no more than six members can obtain a campsite. Only two camping units are allowed per campsite. RV Camping is available year-round. Pets are welcome too.

Boating and Fishing

Visitors bringing their RVs or campervans to Martinak State Park are exposed to some wonderful recreational opportunities at Choptank River and Watts Creek. Those who love to boat or angle will be overjoyed with the fishing and boating opportunities found here. Abundant stocks of bass, sunfish, catfish, and perch will keep anglers hooked to the riverbanks. You can cast your line right from the fishing pier. Canoes are rented throughout the peak season and can be launched right from the boat launch.

Visiting the Nature Center

Maryland’s Martinak State Park houses a nature center featuring a wealth of fascinating displays like a local mural painting showcasing the park’s flora and fauna, a picture window offering spectacular views of a bird and butterfly garden, and books and games for children. The central feature of the nature center is an aquarium containing various species from the Watts Creek and Choptank River. Nature lovers eager to learn more about Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay must dedicate a few hours of their RV trip to this nature center.

Peak Season Events

During the busiest camping season, when hundreds of people drive their RVs to Martinak State Park, a bountiful array of colorful events and programs ensure more outdoor fun for campers. The programs include a variety of amusing offerings such as bike rides, workshops, family walks, night hikes, sunrise yoga, and programs for kids like Junior Rangers.

During the summer, special kayaking and fishing events are organized which are whole-heartedly enjoyed by campers. The park’s annual Fall Fest is its grandest celebrations offering pumpkin decorations, games, and much more. Off-Season

Hiking

Martinak State Park boasts some incredible hiking for its sporty RV campers. The park is built on marshes, forests, and grassy fields, and is home to a number of wildlife and birds. The park’s hiking trails are an excellent way to explore all of that and more. The trails tour the park’s varying landscape and explore all of its flora and fauna. The park’s Nature Trail, Activity Trail, Mardela Trail, and Point Trail offer opportunities for leisurely bike rides, guided walks, early-morning walks, dog walks, nature walks, night hikes, and some outdoor yoga.

Santa's Magic Workshop

In December Martinak State Park becomes a Christmas wonderland. The park celebrates Christmas with a brilliant Christmas show called Santa’s Magic Workshop which is adorned with magnificent light displays, hustling train gardens, and outstanding crafts. The most outstanding of these all is the Santa’s grand visit in his signature style. This magical display of colors, light, and Santa’s grandeur attract many tourists from the neighboring areas. Winter may not be included in the park’s peak camping season, but December is undoubtedly a time of enthusiasm, holiday spirit, and lots of outdoor fun at Martinak State Park. December is spent celebrating joys of Christmas with festive programs like Santa’s Chase. Santa’s Chase is a allows families to walk or jog through two miles of illuminated trails. Other to-do things include dog walks and a Santa-judged costume challenge. Santa’s Chase is an annual event which has garnered significant attention of RV campers since its inception.
