Introduction

Situated on the northern shore of Moyie Lake, with amazing recreational opportunities for RV campers, Moyie Lake Provincial Park is a great place to enjoy vacations. Located 5 km (3 miles) north of Moyie, and 20 km (12.5 miles) south of Cranbrook, this provincial park features a campground which grants the only public access to the deep blue mountain waters of Moyie Lake.

While on vacation at Moyie Lake Provincial Park, you get to enjoy recreational activities such as hiking on nature trails, biking on designated trails and the roadways; wildlife viewing, flora observation, fishing for kokanee and ling cod; canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing, sailing, swimming, picnicking, pet walking, photography, and many more.

There are 111 RV campsites at Moyie Lake Provincial Park, some of which are available by reservation, and others on first-come first-served basis. You’ll enjoy the use of amenities and facilities such as water taps, toilets, restrooms with showers, playground, picnic tables, fire grills, boat launch, and parking lots at Moyie Lake Provincial Park. The park also features a 1.3 km (0.8 mile) sandy beach.

Moyie Lake Provincial Park, established in 1959, received its name from the French word “Mouille” meaning “wet.”

Transportation

Driving

Driving up to Moyie Lake Provincial Park in your RV, trailer, or car is easy as the park is accessible via Highway 95, just 5 km (3 miles) north of Moyie community, or 20 km (12.5 miles) south if coming in from Cranbrook. When in the park, you’ll also find that accessing the various parts of the park is easy because local paved roads are available within the park. Furthermore, there are no driving restrictions within the park, so you’ve got nothing to worry about.

Parking

There are only a few options for parking RVs, trailers, and other motorized vehicles at Moyie Lake Provincial Park, in view of the fact that there are only four parking areas available. Two of the parking areas, though, are located around the campground. Alternatively, RV campers can park their rigs at their designated campsites in the campground. Meanwhile, overnight parking is available.

There are no direct public transportation services to Moyie Lake Provincial Park.

Reservations camping

Moyie Lake Campground

There are 111 pet-friendly campsites in Moyie Lake Campground at Moyie Lake Provincial Park, and none of the campsites is equipped with hookup options for RVs. However, the campsites can accommodate large RVs as RV length limit at the campground is 32 ft (10 m). Vacationers with larger rigs can call the park ahead to find out if there is space available.

A number of amenities are available at the campground, including, water taps, toilets, restrooms with showers, playground, picnic tables, fire grills, trailhead access, and parking lots.

Quiet time in the campground is from 11pm to 7am.

59 campsites in the campground are available by reservations, while 52 campsites are available on first-come first-served basis only.

In-Season

Hiking/Biking

If you’re a lover of hiking on nature trails, then you’ll find the two trails at Moyie Lake Provincial Park with their interpretive signs very interesting. You could either hike on the “Kettle Pond” Trail or the “Meadow" Trail, both of which add up to about 2 km (1.2 miles) and will take you through scenic forest habitats within the Moyie Valley. Besides, you can ride bicycles on the main section of the trails in the park, as well as on the roadways. You’ll need to wear a bicycle helmet to ride in the park though.

Flora and Fauna

On the northern shore of the lake at Moyie Lake Provincial Park, there is a small wilderness area that features light forests, vibrant riparian areas and pond. These areas host a variety of wildlife such as muskrat, beaver, whitetail deer, water fowl, and abundant woodland birds. Douglas fir, larch, white spruce, and lodgepole pine are characteristic of the drier parts of the park, alongside trembling aspen, willow, cottonwood, and alder.

Fishing

It’s a real pleasure to angle for kokanee and ling cod at Moyie Lake in Moyie Lake Provincial Park. Consequently, you wouldn’t want to miss out on the exciting fishing opportunities available at the park on you visit on RV vacation. Even more, ice fishing opportunities are available in the park during winter. Please note that an appropriate fishing license is required to fish at the park.

Off-Season

Canoeing

On Moyie Lake, you can engage in various water-related pursuits such as canoeing, kayaking, sailing, and windsurfing, making Moyie Lake Provincial Park a preferred destination for RV campers who enjoy such activities. The best place to kickstart the adventure is the boat launch at the end of the campground.

Swimming

Visit Moyie Lake Provincial Park with your swimming gear so as to be able to take a dip in the cool and refreshing water in the park. The swimming beach is just off a large grassy area, indicating you can enjoy picnicking on the beach too. Moreover, the swimming area in the park is shallow enough for children to enjoy waterplay. Note that there are no lifeguards available at the park.

Pet Walking

Not only is Moyie Lake Provincial Park pet-friendly, but you can also enjoy walking with your pets along the roads in the park. Due to the presence of wildlife as well as out of consideration for other campers, it's important to keep your dog on a leash. But it's a great way for both you and your four-legged friend to get some exercise and see more of the natural environment.
