Schodack Island State Park is the perfect RV destination for you and your family. Whether you're looking for the peace and quiet of the great outdoors or the next best fishing spot, this state park has it all. Located just west of I-87, the park is both easy to access and easy to navigate with your RV.

This 1,000 plus acre state park is conveniently located on the shore of the Hudson River, making it a haven for the outdoors enthusiast. Within the park, there are many activities such as boating, fishing, camping, hiking, and more!

The park was opened to the public in 2002 with the intentions of it being a day-use only park. It wasn't until 2013 that 66 campsites were planned to be constructed, opening the park to the camping community in 2016.

Schodack Island State Park is full of opportunity for this of any interest and welcomes all to the park. Picnic tables, nature trails, playing fields, and fishing areas are all handicap accessible!

Transportation in Schodack Island State Park

Driving

Accessing Schodack State Park is a breeze whether you're in your car or your full-sized RV. The park is located on the East Side of the Hudson River, and all areas of the park are accessible with your car. While the whole park is easily accessed, be aware that the primitive areas of the parks may be challenging to navigate with your RV.

All of the roads that access the campground and boat dock area are paved, so they will be easy to access. When you head South into the primitive area, the roads are unpaved, and it may not be the best idea to take your RV into these areas. If you need to access the primitive area, a mountain bike or walking will be your best option if you don't have a car.

If you're planning to visit the park for the day, there are ample amounts of parking around the boat dock area, and the spaces are large enough to accommodate your RV or boat trailer!

Off-Season

Ice Skating

While Ice Skating is a winter-only activity, there are very few state parks that offer this activity. Located East of the campground, you'll find the ice skating rink!

The state park floods one of their fields during the winter to make the skating rink, making it the perfect winter destination! All skaters must be at least eight years old to skate, and under 18 must have a participating adult with them at all times.

Always check the park's website for closures, as the rink closes in warm temperatures!

Hiking

Schodack Island State Park is an excellent park for those looking for the perfect day-hiking trail. The park offers many multi-use trails that are open to walking, hiking, and mountain biking.

Most trails within the park are considered easy, and each trail can be done within several hours. The park has three trails, and all combined total around eight miles!

The trails are pet-friendly as well, making this an excellent place for both you and your dog to get some good exercise!

Fishing

Fishing is an excellent activity in Schodack Island State Park, as there are many places within the park to fish. Whether you're fishing from a boat or fishing from the banks, the Hudson River won't let you down!

Striped Bass is the most commonly fished for species in the park, and the state park is known to have the best fishing access on the Hudson River. While you may not have much luck catching striper from the banks, bream and other bass species are common when fishing from the banks!
