Featuring gently rolling hills of blackjack and post oak trees intermingled with tall grass prairie, Skiatook Lake is a paradise for RV campers and nature lovers that wish to enjoy remarkable holidays and a wonderful time away from home. Located a few miles west of Skiatook in Oklahoma, this US Army Corps of Engineers park is easy to reach for RVs, trailers, and other motorized vehicles via highways, major roads, and local access roads.
Loads of fun activities are available to campers and visitors at Skiatook Lake, ranging from water-based recreation such as boating, sailing, paddling, fishing, and swimming to other exciting possibilities like hiking. Wildlife and bird watching opportunities abound at this lake park, and so does hunting for hunting enthusiasts. Moreover, there is lots to see within and outside the park. Nearby attractions include Keystone Lake and Birch Lake.
RV and tent camping options are available at Skiatook Lake, within campsites that can be reserved. Peak season is from April to October, and you’ll find amenities such as showers, restrooms, and picnic tables at the campsites. Campground facilities range from group picnic shelter to disc golf course, horseshoe pits, basketball, and volleyball courts.

Transportation

Driving

Located about 20 miles northwest of Tulsa, via Oklahoma Highway 11, Skiatook Lake is accessible via Oklahoma Highway 20, a few miles west of Skiatook. Getting to this Army COE park in RVs, trailers, and other motorized vehicles is easy, and so is navigating within the park. RV and trailer equipment for vacationers and visitors are available northeast of the park at Oologah and south at Sand Springs.

Parking

Parking spaces are available for vacationers and visitors at and around Skiatook Lake to park RVs, trailers, and cars. The campgrounds and recreation areas also have parking pads for vehicles. Moreover, overnight parking is also available.

There are no direct public transportation services to Skiatook Lake.

Reservations camping

Tall Chief Cove

Tall Chief Cove campground sits on Skiatook Lake and features pet-friendly campsites that are open between April and October (peak season) and available by reservation. This campground, being one of the most popular campgrounds in the region, features various amenities and opportunities to enjoy activities such as swimming, hiking, boating, picnicking, and fishing.
At this campground, there are 49 campsites, all equipped with electric and water hookups for RVs and trailers. Campground facilities and amenities include a group picnic shelter, disc golf course, horseshoe pits, basketball, and volleyball courts. Showers, restrooms, and picnic tables are also on hand in the campground.
RV/trailer length limit at the campground is 93 feet.

Twin Points

Twin Points campground is located on the forested shore of Skiatook Lake and features pet-friendly campsites that are open between April and October (peak season) and available by reservation. This campground features various amenities and opportunities to enjoy activities such as swimming, hiking, boating, picnicking, and fishing.
At this campground, there are 52 campsites, all equipped with electric and water hookups for RVs and trailers. Campground facilities and amenities include showers, restrooms, picnic tables, swim beach, and playground.
RV/trailer length limit at the campground is 96 feet.

In-Season

Boating

Boating opportunities at Skiatook Lake are exciting and engaging for RV campers and visitors who fancy the sport. At this lake park, there are plenty of opportunities to launch boats and other personal watercraft on to the park’s waters to explore the lake and enjoy paddling. Because boating on this lake is in accordance with COE regulations and Oklahoma boating laws, all boaters are required to stay current on conditions that govern the activity and practice safe boating techniques.

Fishing

Skiatook Lake is a popular destination among RV campers and visitors that love to fish as this lake park features abundant fish varieties available to all who are appropriately licensed. Your skill level does not matter at this park because you’ll have plenty of opportunities to angle for your desired fish.
Look out for largemouth bass, spotted bass, smallmouth bass, hybrid striped and other bass species in the water as you fish. Moreover, you can catch other fish such as white crappie, black crappie, walleye, channel catfish, and different sunfish species. So, don’t forget your fishing gear.

Hiking

Pack your best hiking boots as you visit Skiatook Lake because the park has trails that provide enjoyable hiking experiences for campers. The trails in this US Army Corps of Engineers park are set up around the lake so that you get scenic views of the lake as you explore the park on foot.
For hikers who are beginners, two short trails are located at the Osage Ramp area and Lake Office, while more experienced hikers can take on the five-mile-long trail extending from the spillway in the park to the Cross Timbers Marina.

Wildlife

Wildlife and bird viewing opportunities abound at Skiatook Lake for nature lovers and campers who love to watch these various faunae and take photographs. Moreover, this park not only offers campers the chance to watch the animals and birds that reside in the park, but hunting opportunities are also available to hunting enthusiasts. Those that fancy the sport can hunt for quail, rabbit, white-tailed deer, squirrel, and many other game species that are abundant around the lake. The 12.5 square miles of public hunting area around the park is managed by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation and the US COE.

Sightseeing

Bring your cameras along on your visit to Skiatook Lake to keep mementos of the beautiful spots that are in the park. One such feature is the gently rolling hills of blackjack and post oak trees that are interspersed with tallgrass prairie in the areas surrounding the lake. You’ll definitely find these views magnificent as you explore the park. Additionally, the meandering shoreline nestled among picturesque bluffs will leave you entirely enthused. The park is such a beauty to behold!

Swimming

Swimming is a well-loved activity at Skiatook Lake, thanks to the presence of swimming areas in the lake for campers and visitors to use. Both swimming areas, at Tall Chief Cove campground and Twin Points campground, are popular among campers, especially in summer, as they offer the chance to escape the heat and enjoy refreshing swims. The beach areas by the swimming areas are also great spots to sit and take in the sun or enjoy a meal with family and/or friends.
