Event information

Once the Alabama International Motor Speedway in 1969, this zooming site as grown to be a race fan favorite. Since 1989 the track has been referred to as the Talladega Superspeedway. Located in Talladega, Alabama the site now has 3,000-acres of land. Multiple race series including NASCAR events like the Monster Energy Cup Series, Xfinity Series, and the Gander Outdoors Truck Series have been held here. Prime events happen during the beautiful months of May and October, allowing you to appreciate firsthand the beauty of this little section of Alabama.

Racing isn't the only thing you can enjoy at the Talladega Superspeedway. Home to some zippy RV campsites along with hosting great concert events, this speedway has a little bit of everything for an amazing time. Tickets

Ticket prices for individual seats range from $75 to around $150 depending on the location of the seating. Package deals are plentiful and can vary substantially. Smaller packages often start around $60 for two days. More VIP options include premier parking, catered food, unlimited drinks, and access to a catered suite.

RV camping is also multifaceted as there are 11 fields to choose from, with the lowest priced ones starting at just over $100 to rent. The closer a fan chooses to the track and the infield itself, the price will go up and may go over $300. Transportation

Driving

Talladega Superspeedway is east of Birmingham, Alabama and west of Atlanta, Georgia. Nestled just off of Interstate 20, most people take this path to either exit 168 or 173. For RVers its best to go along a roadway that is closest to your chosen campsite. It is a good idea to note the entrance associated with your campsite prior to arrival. Check the Alabama Department of Transportation website for road updates as you approach the area.

Parking areas

Spaces are divided into free, VIP, and ADA-permitted for parking. Lots typically open early during the weekend. Free parking is found throughout the site, with preferred parking found all along the west, with premier parking prices starting at around $10. ADA-accessible parking is in multiple lots, with the closest located near North Tunnel 4.

Public Transportation

Public transportation to and from Talladega may be centered around event times through regional bus services. Taxi and rideshare options may also be an option if you plan to come from some of the surrounding larger communities. Drop-off stations are usually located along North Tunnel 4.

Where to stay

Onsite

Talladega has several layers of camping, with free sites located the farthest out in the extreme north, south, and west of the track. The closer spaces get to the track itself, the more premier the pricing and spacing becomes. Hookups include shared water hookups on most sites, with additional hookups like electric sewage offered via infield sites. Generator use is allowed throughout the campground as long as proper procedures and quiet time are followed.

Nearby

If you want a little more distance between the track and your campsite, then you're in luck. Multiple RV campsites are located in the greater Talladega area, with many located near Interstate 20. Farther to the west, along the Coosa River, are a few more camping options. Getting back to the track from these campsites is often just a matter of taking the main path, Interstate 20, to the grounds.

Getting around

In the past, free ADA shuttling service for people with disabilities has been offered via golf carts. Companion riders may be limited to allowed assistance to all guests with a need. Multiple ADA-trams are located in various areas of the track grounds. Personal motorized riding units like ATVs, golf carts, and other non-licensing vehicles are not permitted.

What to pack

Clothing

Alabama is known for high humidity and temperatures. Make sure to pack loose-fitting but breathable clothing like t-shirts and shorts. It isn't completely unheard of for rain to frequent the area, so have a light jacket packed away, too. Winter visitors may not need a full parka but will want warm pants and sweatshirts and a few items to bundle up in at the track.

Gear

Items that can be brought into the Talladega stands include soft-sided coolers within the approved range and lightweight backpacks. As good practice, bring a pair of binoculars to see the racing, seat cushion to provide comfort, along with a container for drinking water that meets regulations. A scanner and headphone set will help you hear the action as it happens on the track.

Health & Safety

Events are located outside so proper protection against the elements in the form of hats, sunglasses, sunblock, and insect spray are highly recommended. Speedways are loud, so make sure you have some sort of headset or earplugs. Other items you may want to include is any medication or prescription drugs to avoid leaving the track.

Cooking

Talladega Superspeedway campgrounds may have different cooking regulations in each area. Be sure to check what your chosen campsite allows before arrival. Generators are allowed as per the guidelines presented by the track. To restock on any essentials, you can head west on Interstate 20 to find several options within a 20 to 30-minute drive, or visit the City of Talladega to the south along AL-77.

Restaurants

Want to grab a quick bite to eat or have a good sit down meal? Like the stores, the majority of the restaurants in the Talladega area are along AL-77 west of the grounds. Here you may find everything from Italian, Chinese, Mexican, and much more.

Vendors

A plethora of vendors make their home at the Talladega Superspeedway, with the Fan Zone outfitted with drinks and food ready to delight guests. Other vendors include major car brands that set up shop and show off the newest vehicle models they have to offer. You will also have the opportunity to get memorabilia from official NASCAR stations.

Safety

Security

When entering the Talladega Superspeedway stadium, you can expect the staff to search patrons and their possessions. Prohibited items like weapons, glass containers, and noisemakers will be confiscated. Security and law enforcement will be patrolling the premises to ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable day at the races.

Weather

Alabama often experiences warm and muggy summers. Thankfully, most of the major events happen in early spring and fall, making the temperature much more reasonable. If visiting during these times, you can typically expect slightly cooler temperatures. Winters may find temperatures that barely touch freezing in this southern state.

Medical

First aid stations are located along the western end of the track, with a couple more by the grandstands. An official Care Center Lane which contains EMS and medical personnel is located between Turn 4 and Turn 1 inside the infield. A medical clinic is located northwest of the grounds off of AL-77, with larger facilities in the heart of Talladega south of the speedway along the same highway.
