Seasonal activities in The Battlefords Provincial Park

In-Season

Paddling

Jackfish Lake is the ideal lake to bring your kayak or canoe to paddle and explore the water. The boat launch and trailer parking area are located near the north end of the Center Campground, so it is easy to get to the lake from where you are staying. If you don’t have a boat of your own, the park has a boat rental facility where you can rent boats and paddle boats. The rental facility is located next to the boat launch, so everything you need is close by. If you want to know more about renting a boat or paddling, ask a member of the park staff.

Mountain Biking

If you prefer to explore a park on wheels rather than by walking, then a mountain bike ride is something you should add to your trip itinerary. Bring your bike and your biking gear and ride the natural and gravel terrain path that progresses from beginner to more advanced throughout the route. Because the trail is a designated mountain bike pathway, you shouldn’t have to worry about dodging dogs and hikers, so your ride should be swift, challenging, and fun.

Mini Golf

If you are searching for a family-friendly activity that everyone will enjoy, then bring everyone to play a round of mini golf. You will find mini golf located near the north end of the day use area. The facility is open during the peak operating season and times vary depending on the day of the week. Golfing isn't included in the cost of camping; there is a minimal fee to play. For hours of operation and more information on mini golf, stop by the mini-golf facility.

Off-Season

Hiking

Hikers who plan their camping vacations around provincial parks that have hiking trails will enjoy the two paths that run through The Battlefords Provincial Park. An easy hike, the Lakeside Trail, begins near the South Campground and runs .95 miles (1.5 km). The more challenging hike is a self-guided nature trail that runs near Jackfish Lake. The Cacti and Cranberries Interpretive Trail has a large hill and is better suited for more experienced hikers. For trail details, pick up a detailed park map upon your arrival.

Geocaching

If you are up for a challenge, and you enjoy activities that involve electronics, then you and your whole family will love geocaching. Geocaching is an electronic scavenger hunt that requires users to use a hand-held GPS unit to search for hidden treasure, or caches, in an area like a provincial park. The Battlefords has at least one cache hidden within the park’s boundaries. Interested cachers should download the coordinates to your device before heading to the park. The park does not rent devices; geocaching is an activity you bring with you anywhere in the world.

Golf

If you like to miniature golf, but you still enjoy your time on the regular greens, then take the time away to play a round of golf at the Jackfish Lodge Golf and Conference Center. Play golf overlooking Jackfish Lake, and experience the challenging 18-hole course along some of the most scenic places in the park. Before heading to the course, stop by the full-service pro shop to get the items you need to have a fun and successful day on the greens!
