Introduction

The Warren Bridge Campground is a Bureau of Land Management property located in western Wyoming, on the well known Green River, which is famous for its scenery, natural landscape, wildlife, and excellent fishing. Sagebrush covered rolling hills surround the campground, which is situated at an elevation of 7600 feet. The rolling high prairie environment, river, and riparian areas near the watercourse create habitat for wildlife and the elevated terrain provides scenic views of the Wind River Mountain Range and surrounding region. The Warren Bridge Campground is an open area, located on the east bank of the Green River just south of the Warren Bridge.

Just a short distance upstream from the campground is the Warren Bridge River Access Area where recreational opportunities such as river floating, boating, fishing, hiking, and picnicking are available. The overnight campground has 16 pull-through sites suitable for RV and tent camping. Amenities include restrooms, picnic tables, and drinking water, as well as an RV dump station to facilitate day trips and overnight stays. The campground is open seasonally and overnight camping is available for a small fee.

When traveling in the Warren Bridge Campground region, visitors will find no shortage of fantastic natural areas. Visit the Bridger-Teton National Forest, Shoshone National Forest, and Yellowstone National Park while touring the area.

Transportation

Driving

The Warren Bridge campsites are connected by gravel surfaced interior roads that can be rough and become rutted or have washboard develop in wet weather. If you have an RV or tow trailer, slow down and proceed carefully to avoid having the contents in your unit becoming dislodged.

To reach the Warren Bridge Campground from Pinedale, Wyoming, travel west on Highway 191. The campground is about 20 miles from Pinedale, just before the Warren Bridge, and access is located on the southside of the highway. The river is spanned by the bridge on Highway 191, which has no overhead clearance limits to contend with. The old Warren Bridge, which runs parallel to the highway, has height limitations. Pinedale has plenty of amenities and services for travelers in the region to access. Highway 191 can also be used to approach the area from Warren Bridge Campground from the north and west and is a well-paved and maintained route.

Travelers in the region should be aware that the area is subject to climate extremes, with hot dry summers, and cold snowy winters. Ensure your vehicle is well maintained and has appropriate fluid levels in summer to withstand high temperatures. During the offseason, winter rated tires improve traction in icy or snowy conditions.

First-come first-served

Warren Bridge Campground

The Warren Bridge Campground is located on the east bank of the Green River just south of the eastern terminus of the Warren Bridge. The Warren Bridge Recreation Site is just a few hundred yards upstream and provides a boat ramp and picnic sites.

The campground has 16 sites, eight that are pull through, and eight that are back-in accessible. Sites can accommodate RVs and tow trailers. It is easily accessible from paved Highway 191, and campsite interior roads are gravel surfaced. There are three double vault toilets and an RV dump station here, as well as trash receptacles.

Each site has a potable water supply, fire ring, and picnic table. There are also developed picnic sites for day use. The campground is open from May to September, and available overnight for a nominal fee on a first-come, first-serve basis. The maximum stay is 14 days. A campground host is located on-site during the peak season. Pets are permitted at the campground but should remain leashed and under control. Enjoy hiking, boating, fishing, wildlife watching, floating and swimming from the Warren Bridge Campground and the Warren Bridge Recreation Site.

In-Season

Wildlife Watching

Enjoy the wilderness areas around the Warren Bridge Campground, and up and down the Green River, both of which are rich with wildlife. The river provides a water source and supports vegetation along its course that harbors a variety of bird, fish, and mammal species.

Look to the sky to view gliding raptors, trout and salmon swim along the river channel. Deer, songbirds, and waterfowl can be spotted along the river banks. Take a pair of binoculars to spot the local residents from a distance, and a camera so you can capture your wildlife finds for posterity.

Fishing

A boat ramp located at the Warren Bridge Recreation Site provides access to the river for fishing activities. The Green River is a popular spot for sport fishing enthusiasts and anglers. A variety of species can be harvested including brook trout, cutthroat, Mackinaw trout, brown trout, rainbow trout, and mountain whitefish.

Be sure to have a valid State of Wyoming fishing license and follow all rules and regulations diligently. You can fish from the shores at the Warren Bridge Campground or nearby recreation site just upstream, or from the water surface by boat.

Horseback Riding

A local outfitter provides horseback riding tours through the beautiful high prairie wilderness and national forest areas near the Warren Bridge Campground. Contact Green River & Bridger-Teton Outfitters to arrange for an equestrian adventure and discover the stunning landscape in the region from the back of a four-legged friend.

You can arrange for various lengths of guided trail rides and routes while staying in the area. There is nothing quite like viewing this rugged landscape from horseback. Experienced guides and mounts are available to provide a unique trail riding experience in this beautiful backcountry area. Longer trips include a break for a drink and snack. Riders eight years and up are accommodated.

Off-Season

Green River Drift Cattle Drive

For a taste of the “old West” visit the Pinedale, Wyoming area in the early spring and fall during the biannual cattle drive. The Green River Drift is one of the longest, distance-wise, and longest-running cattle drives in the US.

While traveling along Highway 189 and Highway 352, motorists may get treated to a view of this spectacular event, which involves driving several thousand head of cattle from summer pasturing opportunities to their home ranges. Over a dozen ranches move their cattle along a historic stock route, a trip of about three weeks, to and from grazing allotments.

Alpine Downhill Skiing and Snowboarding

To the northwest of the Warren Bridge Campground, alpine mountain ranges provide numerous ski and snowboard resorts for downhill enthusiasts. The ski resorts in the Jackson Hole region area famous worldwide for their excellent snow coverage and amenities. Chairlifts, groomed runs, lessons, equipment rentals, and on-hill accommodations and restaurants are available at the numerous resorts in the area.

Nordic Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing

Numerous maintained and unmaintained backcountry skiing and snowshoeing trails can be found within a short drive of the Warren Bridge Campground during the winter months. Nordic ski areas with groomed trails, warming shacks, and equipment rentals can be found in the national forest areas to the northwest of the BLM site.

Some backcountry trails may not have groomed runs, and are more appropriate for experienced cross country skiers and snowshoers, who are prepared to set track and trail. Dress in layers for nordic activities, as you will warm up with exertion and cool down rapidly at rest stops.
