Beechnut Family Campground

Rent an RV to gain access to endless recreational fun in North Carolina’s northern wilds. Beechnut Family Campground is surrounded by towering mountains that cast a shadow across the valley. Tall oak, beech, maple, and willow trees lend shade to the RV sites, a welcome relief in the humid region. All of Beechnut Family Campground’s 50 sites come with full hookups and free wifi. Guests can make use of the family-friendly amenities like swimming pools, bathrooms with showers, a snack bar, and a jumping pillow. There are three catch-and-release fishing ponds, too, for any beginner fishermen to try out their skills. Beechnut Family Campground also is pet-friendly, and well-behaved leashed dogs are happily welcomed by the staff. One thing to be aware of when planning an RV camping trip: Beechnut Family Campground is open only between early April and the end of October.

The closest town is Mt. Airy, which has earned the nickname of “Mayberry.” And no wonder. The downtown area is as charming and quaint as the television version was, and the locals are welcoming and friendly. It’s the sort of town where everyone knows everyone. The town is also well-known for its annual Autumn Leaves Festival, which regularly draws around 200,000 people to the October event.
