Centennial Campground

Chugach State Park is one of the closest natural parks when you are RV camping at Centennial Campground. It covers almost 500,000 acres of land and is one of the largest state parks in the United States. Easily accessible from Anchorage, this is one of the most visited parks in the area, with beautiful views, ice fields, scenic glaciers, and mountain lakes. Here you can enjoy hiking, camping, backpacking, nature viewing, and so much more. The Eagle River Nature Center is one of the best attractions on the mountain, where you can join a naturalist on tours and learn a lot about the ecosystem of Alaska with their educational programs. The state park also offers field trips for students, educational tours for all ages, and all kinds of events and activities. Another interesting part of this natural park is the Flattop Mountain Trail, which is one of Alaska’s most visited peaks, located in Glen Alps. From downtown Anchorage, you can take a shuttle, or you can drive to the parking lot where the trail starts. This 1.5-mile trail takes only about one hour to hike; at the end of the trail, you'll reach a flat-looking peak from where you can catch stunning, panoramic views of the ocean and mountains surrounding it. If you like biking, you can get here by bike from downtown Anchorage, too. The Portage Glacier is one of the closest glaciers to Anchorage, just a few miles away from the city of Whittier. It's on Portage Lake, which is located on the Kenai Peninsula, a place where you can visit many beautiful fjords close to the city of Seward. This picturesque natural area offers many unique experiences, like hiking Portage Pass Trail, boating and seeing the glacier from the waterside, kayaking, and so much more. Nearby, you can also visit Burns and Shakespeare glaciers, and the many other attractions in Portage Valley.
