Friendly, communicative, accommodating host

Jarca is consistently friendly, communicative, and quick to respond. She provides thorough explanations, makes check-in/out easy, and is flexible, even allowing early returns or forgotten item retrieval.

Pleasant to drive, well-equipped

The AstroVan is a reliable, budget-friendly older model, pleasant to drive despite its age. It's well-equipped with kitchen, cooler, and camping gear. Be aware of no A/C, thin pillows/blanket, and ~12L/100km fuel consumption.

We had a wonderful time in Banff National Park with the van! We really appreciated that it was budget-friendly. It’s an old van, sure, nothing fancy and luxury but it was what we needed. We didn’t use the bed-set up as a bench but we generally configured the set up like that during the day to have more room for our bags and access the kitchen stuff. There is a cigarette-lighter plug to charge phones, but you have to bring your cable. We had no problem charging our phone during the trip. The cooler was very convenient, you have to consider buying ice during the trip. We found a big ice block in Canmore (Safeway grocery store) but nowhere else (other stores only had ice chips/cubes which doesn’t last long). The little camping table and chairs in the rooftop storage were convenient. And the kitchen stove worked well. We also had one bath towel provided per person. We went in early July and we recommend that you ask Jarca for an extra blanket as it was pretty chilly for some nights and the provided blanket is kind of thin (which is good for warmer nights tho). The pillows are very thin and kind of crumbly (like the pillows they used to give in airplanes haha but larger), just so you know if you have room to bring your own camping pillow! What was missing during our stay was a small hatchet to make kindling wood because campgrounds usually only provide regular logs. We had to borrow from our camping neighbours. And try to get yourself some newspaper at the stores at the beginning (or being fire starters). FYI, we took a shuttle bus from the Calgary airport to Canmore (Banff explorer / AbestX compagnies). Drop off/pick up was at Northwinds Hotel, and then we walked 35 minutes to get to Jarca’s place and get the van. Jarca was very quick to answer my messages and she was sweet! Last recommendation: bring bear spray or rent a can through Jarca :) Be careful on the trails, never feed animals, pick up your trash/waste everywhere and enjoy the amazing views!!!

Overall a good experience. Jarca, the host, is very friendly and communicative, and check-in and drop-off were very easy. Jarca also let us return the van early and even pick up some items we accidentally left in the van. The van is old and has a few quirks, but was reliable and took us around with no issues. Without A/C it may be hot in the summer or if parked in campsites without trees (e.g., in Jasper), but on cool evenings it was lovely. Face masks are helpful as the van doesn't have perfect sun shades, and if you're tall you'll want to put a suitcase under the end of the bed to prop up the bottom edge. The bed is comfortable, with newer pillows it would be even more comfortable. The steering wheel shakes a tiny amount when braking downhill, but the brakes were reliable and we never felt unsafe.

We had a fantastic trip with this van, spending 9 days traveling around Banff, Yoho and Jasper. Jarca is very friendly and had great communication throughout. The van shows it's age in places as it's quite taped up and the electrics can be temperamental, but that added to its charm and it drove really well and got us around with no problems. The living amenities are great and the bed was comfy. Would definitely recommend.
