The Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge is located near Bonners Ferry, ID, which is situated in the far, northern portion of Idaho's panhandle. This is one of the larger towns in the local area. Another larger town found nearby is Libby, MT, which is located around 60 miles to the southeast. The nearest larger city is Spokane, WA, at over 100 miles to the southwest.

Sandpoint RV Park is in Sandpoint, which is less than 40 miles from Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge. The RV park is open April through October, and the campground offers sites with full hookups as well as WiFi.

A hotel sits right next to the park, so all hotel services and amenities are provided for RVers as well. These include the indoor pool and sauna, the showers, and the exercise room. Exploring the Area

The town of Bonners Ferry was originally founded in the 1860s after the discovery of gold was made nearby. Many buildings that you will see downtown date back to that time. Visitors often enjoy touring these and viewing their historic architecture. There are plenty of shops for you to browse, as well. Some offer the workings of artists from the local tribes. There are also plenty of locally-owned restaurants for you to try out if you find yourself hungry.
