A cozy campground can also be utilized when you feel like staying an extra day or two.Castlewood Canyon State Park just outside of Castle Rock is another Colorado state park worth mentioning. Head here, and you'll find tons of fun activities to enjoy in the day-use area. Beautiful footpaths wind through forests and over trickling creeks, and an array of historic sites dot the landscape of the small state park. An outdoor amphitheater and a gorgeous gazebo host events, concerts, and even weddings in a natural setting.The massive forest located next to Colorado Heights Campground is Pike National Forest, named for Zebulon Pike, an early American explorer. Massive Pikes Peak also shares a name with the explorer and the forest, known for being one of Colorado’s famous “Fourteeners,” or mountains over 14,000 feet in height. Aside from submitting this snow-capped giant, you can swim in alpine lakes, trek through three separate wilderness areas, and camp out at one of the rustic campgrounds in the one-million-acre forest. Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the country’s best-known national parks, famous for its sublime mountains and awe-inspiring meadows of wildflowers. Hike to lookouts above the valleys below, and camp out in divine camping areas up in the mountains of Colorado when you rent an RV near Colorado Heights Campground.

City Sightseeing

When you book an RV in El Paso County, you can choose from several nearby cities and towns to do your sightseeing in. Monument is the closest town to Colorado Heights Campground, but Denver and Colorado Springs are good destinations if you want to spend the day shopping, dining, and sightseeing. The Air Force Academy and several other Air Force installations are based near Colorado Springs, so aviation is part of the area’s makeup. Visit the National Museum of WWII Aviation for an insightful look into the history of aerial warfare, and the tragic stories of the heroes of WWII. You can see decommissioned planes that took part in several American conflicts overseas, and learn about the engineering of these modern marvels.Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is a city-run animal sanctuary overlooking Colorado Springs. You won’t find many other places quite like this one, especially thanks to its gorgeous setting in the mountains. Exotic animals from all around the globe are housed in this small nature park.Garden of the Gods is an iconic part of Colorado Springs, in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. This magnificent rock garden has bizarre yet beautiful rock formations that you can hike through and photograph. This nature-made outdoor art museum is breathtaking, and one of the city's most visited attractions. Several other attractions, museums, historic sites, and theme parks are found up in Denver.
