Discover Cannes

The Great Outdoors

While visiting Cannes, you must take a stroll down the Promenade de la Croisette, or simply La Croisette, as the locals like to call it. Stretching for about a mile along the coast, La Croisette is where people go to see and be seen. With trendy shops, lavish hotels, and enticing cafes, it's considered the pulse of the city. The Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, or Palace of Festivals and Congresses, is here and is the location of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.

Bring a camper rental to Cannes and visit the La Croix-des-Gardes, or Guards of the Cross, a 200-acre park with expansive gardens with trails for hiking or biking that lead visitors through protected forests and open grasslands. The highest point within the park has a giant cross that's visible for miles. There are several different places throughout the park that give visitors a breathtaking panoramic view of Cannes as well as the foothills of the Alps and the Lérins Islands. One section of the park has been set aside as an arboretum.

While in Cannes, you'll most certainly want to check out the various public beaches, such as Palm Beach and Plage du Midi, or Midi Beach. Public beaches can become crowded very quickly, and most don't offer rental beach chairs, so pack a large beach towel and your sunscreen and find a spot early. Windsurfing off of Palm Beach is a great activity to try because the water is shallower than most other areas along the coast. Midi Beach is across town from Palm Beach and is a very popular place for tourists since it's within walking distance of a variety of restaurants and other refreshment stands. Midi Beach is one of the largest public beaches in Cannes.

Camping in Cannes

Once you've found a rental RV in Cannes, make reservations at Park Bellevue, or Bellevue Park. The campground is located along the coast with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea. Each campsite is shaded and spacious, making this the perfect spot for caravans and motorhomes. Electric hookups are available at every campsite and many also have water. Modern showers and restrooms are also available on-site. Bellevue Park also boasts tons of fun activities, including a swimming pool, ping pong, volleyball, and a packed entertainment schedule in the summer.

After finding the best RV rental in Cannes for your budget, drive over to Mandelieu-la-Napoule and stay at Camping les Cigales for a weekend along the Cigales Bay of Cannes. This campground also boasts fantastic water views. The park's 400-plus campsites are shaded by pine trees. Electric and water hookups are available at some of the campsites. Shower facilities are also available to campers.

Rent an RV and plan to spend a weekend at Les Mimosas in Pegomas. This family-friendly campground sits close to public beaches where campers can lounge near the sea for a relaxing day in the sun. Each campsite has water and electric hookups and is surrounded by trees and hedges for a private setting.

Exploring the City

Plan your visit to Cannes during the illustrious Festival de Cannes, or Cannes Film Festival. This is one of the most well-known international festivals throughout the world that highlights and celebrates mainstream cinema as well as independent films. The rich and famous flock to Cannes each May to take part in the Cannes Film Festival. The center of the festival is on Promenade de la Croisette but every part of the city is involved in some way, especially cinemas, theaters, and hotels. Rent a motorhome in Cannes so you have a mobile place to stay during the film festival.

No visit to Cannes is complete without braving Suquet Hill and visiting the Roman settlement nestled above Cannes, simply named Le Suquet. This is one of the oldest places in Cannes, and visitors are transported back to a time when this was a bustling Roman encampment. The narrow cobblestone streets are steeped in history and lead to the Église Notre-Dame-d'Espérance. A monument of the Virgin Mary was commissioned by the church as a way to thank her for her protection throughout World War II. A train will take visitors to the top of Suquet Hill for those who are unable to walk up the steep hill.

Another must-see in Cannes is the Musée de la Castre, or Museum of Castre, located in the former home of the monks of Lérins. Part of the charm and draw of the museum is that the castle where it's located was built during medieval times and overlooks much of Cannes. Be sure to visit the castle’s tower, where 19th-century Riviera landscape art is on display along with musical instruments and other artifacts from that era. Other collections on display at the museum include antiques, Oriental paintings and other artwork from the 19th century, and musical instruments from around the world.
