In northeastern Georgia, just north of Helen and Cleveland, is Unicoi State Park. This state park is easy to visit, and when you book an RV in White County, you’ll also be within short driving distance of Chattahoochee National Forest. Camping with an RV at Unicoi State Park is a fantastic way to explore the area, and there are over 1,000 acres of state park land to explore and enjoy at your leisure.
Unicoi State Park is one of northeastern Georgia’s most popular outdoor destinations, offering a wide assortment of entertainment options to keep guests coming back time and time again. The entire park is pet-friendly, as long as pets are kept on a short and sturdy leash. The park is nestled between nearby mountains, contains a 53-acre lake, and has waterfalls and hiking trails to explore. Overall, an easy way to take your family on an exciting adventure is to rent a camper near Unicoi State Park.
There are a lot of diverse activities to enjoy while RV camping at Unicoi State Park, some of which are beyond the standard hiking, biking, and swimming options. Ziplining is a popular attraction that brings many guests to this state park, and many different zipline courses will have you enjoying views from a whole new angle. There are different levels available depending on your comfort level, and different zipline courses will take you through different parts of the park. Unicoi State Park is also home to a half-mile long zipline that goes over Unicoi Lake, a real treat for thrill-seekers.
Guided adventures are another way to explore the park while motorhome camping nearby. Guests can participate in paddleboard classes, fly fishing classes, guided nature hikes, and even guided kayak trips. Relying on a guide who has not only extensive knowledge of the park but also has extensive knowledge of the activity to help you have a great time is a fantastic way to spend your trip. These types of activities typically require reservations, so be sure to book your slot after sorting out your RV travel dates.
Other activities in Unicoi State Park include swimming, fishing, mountain biking, hiking, and more. There are canoes and pedal boats for rent, over 11 miles of mapped hiking trails to explore, and plenty of different fish species to try and catch. When you want to catch all of your adventures on film, the park staff also rents small portable waterproof cameras to guests.
The state park RV campgrounds at Unicoi State Park can host more than 80 RVs at once. There are 82 RV compatible campsites in total, split between pull-through and back-in sites. Some of the RV sites can host RVs up to 40 feet, while others are limited to 30-feet or smaller. Depending on what type of hookups you want, you may want to reserve your campsite ahead of time, as very few campsites are kept free for a first-come, first-served basis.
Each campsite has its own fire ring, grill, and picnic table, no matter what type of campsite you end up in. One of the easiest ways to see this park is through state park RV camping, and there are even. Most of the campsites have a decent amount of privacy, so don’t worry too much about being parked right next to your camping neighbor.
The Helen Tubing and Waterpark, in Helen, is a fabulous way to cool off under the hot summer sun. This tubing and water park have plenty of water slides and water-based attractions to keep the whole family entertained, and onsite restaurants and snack shacks make it easy to spend the whole day there. When you camp in an RV near Helen it will be convenient to visit the water park without having to commute too far.
Also in Helen is Charlemagne’s Kingdom Museum, which is a unique destination, to say the least. This museum is a thematic railroad museum based on Germany and features hundreds of miniature houses, buildings, roads, cars, and trains. There is alpine scenery, traditional music, and a seemingly endless miniature display to explore at your leisure. This museum holds regular hours, so be sure to arrive early in the day so that you’re able to spend many hours exploring.
You’ll also find plenty of restaurants and shops in Helen, including gas stations and grocery stores. There are many restaurants located along the main street, which is extremely walkable when the weather is pleasant. Helen is pedestrian focused, so don’t be afraid to park your rental RV and explore this mountain town on foot.
