The Great Outdoors

Just beyond your campsite at Lewis and Clark Campground, you can explore Lewis and Clark State Park. Right on the banks of the Missouri River and home to the Lewis and Clark Lake, this state park is rich in history. One of the first stopping points along their great voyage, Lewis and Clark stayed at this lake. They enjoyed it so much that it was eventually named the Lewis and Clark Lake. Today, visitors can enjoy hiking through the forest or along the lakeshore. You can also secure a boat and explore the stunning emerald lake from the water. Birders will also enjoy this destination since it is a prime migratory spot for many species; as many as 230 species of bird have been spotted in this park.Outdoor enthusiasts who want to practice their skills can spend part of the day at the Pigeon Hill Conservation Area near Saint Joseph. Open to both archers and shooters, the Pigeon Hill Conservation Area has several targeted shooting ranges where you can hone your skills. After a little bit of practice, you can take your skills out into the field. The conservation area is home to rabbits, squirrels, turkeys, and deer. Those looking to explore some real Missouri terrain can head to the Platte Falls Conservation Area in Platte City. With almost ten miles of the Platte River cutting through the area, you can launch a motorized boat or a paddleboat and explore the wilderness from your natural byway. If you’d rather stay on dry land, you can head out on the various trails that lead you through the forests, grasslands, and wetlands. As you enjoy your journey, make sure you keep an eye out for some classic Missouri wildlife, such as white-tailed deer or the North American river otter.

Explore the City

When you book an RV in Buchanan County, you can visit Amelia Earhart’s Birthplace. Just over the border into Atchison, Kansas, this preserved and maintained wooden house was the home of Amelia Earhart’s family. Even though Amelia moved around a lot, her grandparents never left the home, and she always considered Atchison her home. Visitors can walk through the home and see personal and family artifacts, photographs, and other memorabilia.Just a short drive away from Amelia Earhart’s Birthplace is the Cray Historical Home Museum, also in Atchison, Kansas. The museum at this 25-room mansion preserves the decadence of the Victorian era. The ornate furnishings and domestic details make this mansion as much an art piece as it is a home. You can see furniture and works of art from the late 1800s and even stroll around the garden.Lovers of art will delight in The National Silk Art Museum, just south of the RV campground. Home to one of the largest collections of silk art in the country, the museum showcases works from around the world. You can see art created to highlight a variety of topics, such as historical moments, nature scenes, and everything in between. When hitting the road with an RV rental, you might need to restock and refuel the rig. While there aren’t a lot of options for grocery stores and gas stations on the Missouri side of the river, you will have plenty of options on the Kansas side in nearby Atchison.A good day deserves to end with a great dessert. Luckily enough, the truly unique gooey butter cake reigns from Missouri. This creamy and delectable dessert may be high in calories, but it is also high in flavor and definitely worth a slightly longer hike.

It doesn't get more convenient than having your own bathroom on the road. Let's talk about the 3 main types of toilets you may encounter in an RV rental.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
