Lewis and Clark State Park to the north is named in honor of the famed explorers who were tasked with mapping out the Louisiana Purchase. The expedition is thought to have passed through the area, naming Gosling Lake, the park’s main feature. Fishing, boating, and swimming on the renamed Lewis and Clark Lake is a delight while camping on its shores makes for some peaceful sleeping.Lake of the Ozarks State Park is a bit farther away in southern Missouri, close to the Ozark Mountains. This magnificent natural area south of Jefferson City remains one of the state’s most popular and visited parks thanks to its divine beauty and gorgeous shores. Nearly two and a half million people pour into Missouri’s largest state park each year, to camp, party on boats on the open lake, go fishing, and swim at amazing beaches. There are historical sites to see while hiking or biking around Lake of the Ozarks State Park, good for a well-rounded experience in southern Missouri.
