Timberline Lake Camping Resort

New Jersey is perhaps the most underrated state for outdoor adventure. Central and southern New Jersey are home to beautiful pinewood forests that are ideal for motorhome camping adventures. One of the best places to stay if you’re looking for a family-friendly New Jersey campground is Timberline Lake.Timberline Lake Camping Resort is a full-service RV campground with full hookups for your RV rental, a dump station, hot showers, cable TV, WiFi, and laundry facilities. Best of all, the campground has some top-notch recreational facilities, like a full-size, lifeguarded swimming pool. There are also canoe and kayak rentals available for use on the adjacent lake and excellent fishing for bass and catfish in it. Volleyball and basketball courts, a kickball field, horseshoe pits, and a playground ensure an active RV camping trip with the family. While many campers enjoy a solitary experience, others relish the chance to meet fellow travelers; Timberline Lake Camping Resort does an excellent job in assisting with these meetups by hosting events for kids, adults, and adults that still want to be kids. Activities range from crafting projects to pool parties to hayrides.Prefer waves lapping at your feet and your toes in the sand? Head to the beach in Ocean City, about half an hour's drive away. While it might feel like you’re deep in the wilderness when you rent a camper near Timberline Lake Camping Resort, urban amenities are never far away; Atlantic City is only half an hour's drive to the south and Philadelphia is an hour west of the campground.

The Great Outdoors

Timberline Lake Camping Resort is located inside the Bass River State Forest, one of South Jersey’s premier hiking areas. None of the trails in the forest have much elevation gain and are quite suitable for all ages and fitness levels. If you’re interested in renting a kayak, Lake Absegami is perfect for a paddle or a swim. The forest is also quite popular with birdwatchers (as are some of the nearby wildlife preserves), so bring a pair of binoculars and note the native species and waterfowl that frequent this oasis of nature in the Garden State. The Pine Barrens are great, but most visitors come for the sun and the sand, so plan for at least a few days on the beach when you camp in an RV near Ocean City. Lifeguards patrol the waters, ensuring safety and good times for all. There’s also great stand-up paddleboarding and surfing if you’ve got a board (available for rent in Ocean City). If you rent a bicycle, Ocean City and Atlantic City both have spectacular bike paths. The Atlantic County Bikeway runs for over seven miles between the New Jersey Turnpike in Atlantic City to the nearby town of Mays Landing. Then there’s the Somers Point Bike Path and Ocean City Bike Path connecting Atlantic City and Ocean City. All of these trails are car-free, and a fantastic way to get around the heavy traffic the shore experiences every summer.

Exploring the City

Atlantic City and Ocean City are both half an hour's drive from Timberline Lake Camping Resort and have lots of entertainment and dining options. The most popular activity in both of the cities is simply strolling down their respective boardwalks; there are also tons of games, souvenir shops, thrilling rides, and unhealthy snack stands to indulge in. There’s even a Ripley’s Believe It or Not in Atlantic City, which is filled with entertaining oddities from around the world. Not everything is geared around tourists on the Jersey shore, though. Both cities have a number of art galleries and museums that are worth checking out should you be in need of culture. Atlantic City’s African American Heritage Museum of Southern New Jersey is of particular interest, with dozens of exhibits featuring local artists along with cultural artifacts that tell a fascinating story of how African American culture has evolved over the years in this part of the state. One of the best things about booking a travel trailer rental in South Jersey, though, is that you’ll have the chance to visit some smaller towns that are passed over by tourists heading to the beach or the casino. Beach Haven has the New Jersey Maritime Museum, which is filled with enthralling displays regarding the shipwrecks along the state’s coastline. There’s also the Eagleswood Amusement Park in Eagleswood, which offers all of the carnival atmosphere seen on the Ocean City or Atlantic City boardwalks, but without any of the crowds.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
