Other large cities that are within driving distance include Detroit, which is a 90-minute drive away, and Cleveland, which is a two-hour drive east.Campsites at Bluegrass Campground are shaded and have access to local hiking trails and horseback riding trails. Sites with electric and water hookups are available, and many sites have sewer connections too. The restroom facilities are well maintained, and hot showers are also offered. There is a coin-operated laundry facility, as well. A campground store offers any essentials you may have forgotten, and there is also a propane refill station. The park is very family-friendly and has a playground for the kids. An indoor facility offers an arcade and a pool table for rainy day entertainment. The Great Outdoors

Bluegrass Campground is very close to the Oak Openings Preserve Metropark, which is one of the largest parks in the Toledo area. There are over 50 miles of trails in this park, making it a popular destination for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. There are also trails available for cross-country skiing in the winter. The trails wind through beautiful wooded areas as well as around ponds and other water features. Additionally, the park is a very popular place for bird watching. You’ll see several different species of birds in this park, both permanent and migratory. There’s an interactive nature center in the park where you can learn about the different kinds of wildlife that live there. When you book a motorhome rental in Lucas County, you will also be very close to the Maumee State Forest. This preserved area has an extensive network of trails for hiking as well as horseback riding, ATVs, and snowmobiles. The ATV trails are not particularly challenging, so they are appropriate for beginner riders. Keep in mind that your ATV must have an Ohio license tag to ride in the forest. You can also go hunting within the state forest. The campground is also not far from the Maumee River and the Missionary Island State Wildlife Area, which is situated on an island in the river. This area is a popular place for boating and fishing. There are no bridges connected to the island, so you will need to access the area from one of the boat launches at the nearby riverside parks. Hunting is also allowed on Missionary Island.

Exploring The Area

When you go RV camping at Bluegrass Campground, it’s easy to visit the city of Toledo, which is only half an hour's drive away. The city is known for its beautiful art museum, which showcases several glass masterpieces. Toledo also has a very large zoo and botanical garden. History buffs will want to visit the National Museum of the Great Lakes, which is home to a historical schooner permanently docked there. Nightlife lovers will enjoy the city’s large local casino. Check local event calendars to see what’s happening at Promenade Park during your stay. This riverfront park hosts some of the city’s most exciting concerts and festivals. Since the campground is not far from the city, there are plenty of gas stations, grocery stores, and other places where you can pick up any camping essentials you may need to keep your Swanton camping trip running smoothly. The Detroit metro area is also easy to visit when you go motorhome camping near Toledo. There’s a lot to do in Detroit’s ever-evolving downtown area, which is known for its beautiful architecture. Belle Isle is a small island located in the Detroit River that is home to a zoo, aquarium, and beautiful parks. The Detroit Institute of Arts and the Henry Ford Museum are both known for their excellent programming. Detroit also has a wide range of shopping options. In Motor City, you’ll find a large commercial mall at the GM Renaissance Center as well as local artisans at Eastern Market. When the sun sets, you can enjoy great food and nightlife in Greektown, which is home to a great selection of restaurants, casinos, bars, and clubs.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
