In the heart of Lake Murray on a gorgeous island covered in forests and spellbinding beaches, Dreher Island State Park is truly a magical place to visit in South Carolina. When you rent an RV near Prosperity, you'll be just a short drive outside from Columbia, and you’ll be able to reach any of the state’s magnificent attractions, national forests, state parks, and other places of interest with ease. From the mountains of the northern part of the state to the brilliant shorelines with world-famous getaways like Charleston and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is an excellent place to go camping.The campground at Dreher Island State Park has two separate camping areas, with over 100 paved campsites to choose from, and an additional 15 sites for tent campers to use. RV sites are available with electrical hookups, though water and sewer connections aren't offered. When you stay at a campsite at Dreher Island, you'll also have easy access to showers and restroom facilities.In addition to heavily wooded campsites with shade and privacy galore, Dreher Island Campground has lovely beaches, swimming areas, and some of South Carolina’s best fishing in the massive Lake Murray. There are boat ramps, fish cleaning areas, and frequently held fishing tournaments in this beloved recreation area, along with three playgrounds, picnic shelters, hiking trails, and a gift shop with souvenirs. It may not be a luxury resort, but this rustic campground will leave you absolutely satisfied.

Steps from your campsite, Dreher Island State Park is in the middle of the 50,000-acre lake. Hiking around the island, swimming in the lake, kayaking or canoeing, and, of course, fishing make up the bulk of the park’s activities.Lake Greenwood State Park is another fabulous option, found on the shores of nearby Lake Greenwood. Dating back to the days of the New Deal and built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, there is a collection of old buildings and landmarks on site along with fabulous lakeshores, swimming areas, beaches, playgrounds, and a small history museum. You can even camp overnight with your RV rental on the paved RV sites found beside Lake Greenwood.Sesquicentennial State Park is just outside of the state capital and was named and donated to the city of Columbia during its 150th birthday celebration and contains a myriad of nature trails carving through the dense pine forests. Campsites are available for tents and RVs, along with picnic shelters, lodges, and a retreat center for family reunions or large gatherings. With splash pads, a large lake for swimming or boating, a dog walking park, and a gift shop, this park is certainly one of the best in the region.The state’s lone national park isn’t far from Columbia or Dreher Island State Park, so don’t miss out on an opportunity to visit Congaree National Park when you book a motorhome rental near Prosperity, SC. This small national park is practically made for kayaking and canoeing, with hundreds of miles of tributaries, streams, and rivers to navigate. Hiking is also possible on a network of trails and boardwalks cutting through the wetlands and swamps of this enticing conservation area, and camping overnight is part of the fun too.

City Sightseeing

The state capital is just a short drive away when you rent an RV near Dreher Island Campground, and it opens up a world of possibilities. What type of RV should I choose?

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
