There are definitely larger and more interesting places than Custer, but this lovely small town in the Black Hills is a fantastic attraction in its own right. The three-floor Custer County 1881 Courthouse Museum is a brilliant place to learn about the area, from the military campaigns against the native people of South Dakota to the infamous outlaws of the Wild West. Take guided tours given by volunteers while you observe artifacts, weapons, uniforms, and tools used by some of the town’s first residents.A quick drive to Rapid City will bring you even more opportunities to learn, like the Museum @ Black Hills Institute. This marvelous learning center has marine fossils, rare minerals, humongous T-rex skeletons, and a smattering of other natural history artifacts that help tell the story of the land going back millions of years.The Crazy Horse Memorial and the Mount Rushmore National Memorial are two of the largest attractions not just in the state but in the entire country and the source of countless photos. Both monuments pay tribute to legendary tribal chieftains of the Lakota people, and some of the most prominent presidents to ever lead the United States. These impressive artistic and engineering feats are carved into the mountainside, easy to see from miles away. Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
