The Great Outdoors

When you find yourself in need of some fresh air, head over to José Antonio Labordeta Park. This city park is brimming with botanical gardens, fountains, and sculptures. You can relax on one of the benches scattered throughout or rent a bicycle and head out on one of the bike paths. If you're feeling adventurous, lace up your hiking boots and tackle one or two of the hiking trails. After you've stretched your muscles and had a relaxing time, stop into the café for a drink or light snack.

Bring your camera along to Macanaz Park for some great shots of the basilica across the river. This park has excellent walking trails, and Ebro River runs along the park; you can walk along the riverbank or head out onto one of the well-maintained trails. Pack a picnic and relax on the grass or rent a bike and hit the trail. Children can play on the playground while adults relax in the shade.

The outdoorsy, adventurous type will find refuge in Tío Jorge Park, where you can watch a spirited game of soccer or shoot some hoops. Head over to the lake and rent a paddleboard or rowboat. Take a hike through the park and enjoy the peace and quiet of the nature surrounding you. There's a café with an outdoor terrace nearby where you can sit and relax after spending the day at Tío Jorge Park.

Camping in Zaragoza

There are several Zaragoza RV campgrounds where you can pull your RV rental in and enjoy a few nights of rest and relaxation. Camping Ciudad de Zaragoza features several spacious campsites with electricity and water. Set up your RV, then head over to the recreation area for a game of tennis or basketball. If you'd prefer something more laidback, take a break at the bar or lounge beside the pool while here.

Área Autocaravanas de Zaragoza, or Zaragoza Motorhome Area, is another Zaragoza RV park and a great place to park your rental motorhome for a night or two. Larger RVs will have a problem finding a campsite they can fit into, but smaller motorhomes will fit just fine. This campground has basic amenities except for electric hookups. Rent a bike and enjoy some of the bike paths leading away from the campground. This Zaragoza RV campground is best suited for campers looking for a stopover.

Exploring the City

While exploring Zaragoza, you'll want to tour the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar, or the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. This church has an amazing statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary that draws tourists from around the globe. The church was built on the site where the Virgin Mary appeared to Saint James in the first century A.D. Visit in October and take part in the Fiesta del Pilar, a seven-day celebration that honors the Virgin Mary.

Make some time to visit the Aljafería Palace, a medieval Islamic palace built in the late 11th century. Part of the palace is home to the Spanish Parliament, but guided tours are available of the unoccupied sections of the palace. Muslim and Christian influences can be seen throughout the palace in various artworks, furnishings, and architecture. You can expect to spend a few hours in the palace and surrounding park. This is the same palace where Christopher Columbus met with Queen Isabella, who provided the funds for his voyages.

You don't have to be Catholic to appreciate the beauty of the Catedral del Salvador de Zaragoza, or the Cathedral of the Savior, also known as the La Seo Cathedral. While visiting the church and enjoying the artwork and absolute splendor of the building, stop in and check out the tapestry museum within the cathedral. Sit in one of the hand-carved pews and meditate on the tranquility within the main sanctuary.
