Discover Liberty Hill Park

When you’re planning to rent a camper near Navarro Mills Lake in Texas and are considering where to go camping with an RV overnight, you’ll be able to choose from four convenient parks right at the lake. On the southern shore of the lake is Liberty Hill Park, which features just over a hundred campsites. Most of the sites here include water and electric hookups. Several are equipped with sewer hookups. Around five of the campsites at Liberty Hill Park also offer screened-in shelters with sinks.

This is a great campground to choose when you’re out exploring central Texas and are looking to do some waterfront camping near the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area. You’ll be able to camp here in pretty much any season. Liberty Hill Park is open year-round, with the peak season typically being from March through the end of October. From the cities of Waco or Corsicana, drive your RV rental on State Highway 31 to Dawson. Turn north onto FM 709 and drive approximately four miles to find the Liberty Hill Park entrance.

Set up base camp, throw something on the site grill, and relax around your personal fire pit and picnic table. After a day of adventures, settle into your campervan rental or pitch a tent at the park to sleep under the stars. Between the facility’s satellite TV access, dump stations, accessible flush toilets, paved parking, group picnic shelters, and other amenities, there is plenty to make RV camping at Liberty Hill Park a comfy and convenient experience.

The Great Outdoors

There are myriad ways to relax and play in the fresh air at Liberty Hill Park. In addition to enjoying great views of the 5,070-acre Navarro Mills Lake from the campground facility, visitors will be able to go fishing, boating, and wildlife viewing throughout the tranquil landscape.

Thanks to the swimming beach and playground, this scenic park offers an ideal place to vacation with the whole family. Registered Liberty Hill Park campers are allowed to splash around at the swim beach year-round. Otherwise, day-users can swim here from the beginning of April through the end of September. There’s no lifeguard on duty. However, you will be able to borrow life jackets from the gatehouse if needed.

If boating is your thing, you’ll find that Liberty Hill Park features two multi-lane boat ramps, as well as a marina where visitors can pick up bait, tackle, and gas before cruising out to open waters. Navarro Mills Lake currently holds the state record for white crappie, so fishing is another favorite pastime here. Anglers have access to a fishing pier at the park, where they can try their luck at catching some crappier, as well as hybrid stripers and channel and yellow catfish.

When hunger strikes on your motorhome camping trip, grab a snack and kick back with a picnic at the Oak Park Day Use Area or Brushie Prairie Day Use Area. Make sure to bring along cameras in your travel trailer; the natural environment of Liberty Hill Park produces wonderful native wildflowers during the spring season. Keep an eye out for bluebonnets, paintbrushes, and many other colorful flowers and plants as you picnic by the sparkling lake.

This vibrant setting also provides a habitat for diverse creatures, so when you go camping at Liberty Hill Park, you might catch a glimpse of bobcats, coyotes, armadillos, raccoons, squirrels, rabbits, and white-tailed deer. Birdwatching is also popular here. As you stroll around the terrain or lounge lakeside, see if you can spot great blue herons, shorebirds, songbirds, plus hawks and bald eagles.

Exploring the Area

The Liberty Hill Park campground is just minutes away from the town of Dawson, Texas, so when you’re camping here, you’ll be within close proximity of basic supplies and services. When you book an RV in Navarro County and are in the mood for more urban attractions, consider taking a road trip over to Corsicana, which is a historic city and the county seat of this area.

Stretch your legs by walking through the original brick streets of downtown Corsicana’s Main Street. Whether you choose to browse local antique shops and annual festivals or experience a rodeo or a chili cook-off, all this and much more is available in Corsicana. Travel back in time at Pioneer village or wander western art collections at the Pearce Museum. Visit some art galleries and take in a live show at the Palace Theater, a restored 1921 vaudeville house.

Corsicana is also about 50 miles away from the downtown of Dallas, which is another exciting city you may want to include on your itinerary as you’re making the rounds in your rental RV. There really is no shortage of cultural entertainment and natural beauty in this region of Texas.
