The Great Outdoors

There's plenty to do outside when you go RV camping at Mission Bell Tradewinds RV Resort. The park is just a short drive away from the Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park. This state park is located along the Rio Grande River, just north of the Mexico border. It is a very popular destination for bird watching due to the large numbers of migratory birds that pass through the area every year. This state park has plenty of amenities that cater to bird watchers, including a large viewing tower. There are seven miles of trails in the park that you can use for hiking and biking.Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley is just one of the area's many places to hike and bike. There are plenty of other trails to explore when you go motorhome camping near Mission. The Mission Hike and Bike Trail is one of the closest to the RV park. The 2nd Street Hike and Bike Trail in nearby McAllen is also a great option. These bike trails connect the many municipal parks in the area, which are also popular destinations for bird watching.Mission RV parks are also within driving distance of the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge and South Padre Island. This massive wildlife refuge offers so much to do and is home to hundreds of beautiful animal species, including rare migratory birds and even ocelots. The sanctuary offers guided walking tours, but you can also explore the park on your own using the hiking and biking trails. If you want to soak up the sun on the beach, you can head over to the South Padre Island section of the refuge, which has a beautiful beach and fishing area. There are also two inland fishing areas on Bahia Grande and Laguna Atascosa. Here you'll find species like trout and southern flounder, and you can also go crabbing.

Exploring The Area

The nearby town of McAllen is home to the International Museum of Art and Science, which has a unique collection of exhibits covering a wide range of topics. You can also tour the Quinta Mazatlan estate, which features beautiful historic architecture as well as landscaped walking trails. The Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park is also a popular destination.
