The Great Outdoors
Visitors will find plenty of opportunities to get outdoors at Sheffield’s many public parks. Graves Park is the largest green space in town and comes complete with a working farm home to pigs, cattle, goats, and donkeys. Snap a photo of the ducks floating in the ponds, amble along the river, or grab a bite to eat at the cafe in Enfield Park. Sheffield Botanical Gardens are worth a wander. This colorful expanse first opened to the public in 1836 and now houses dozens of rare plants in themed gardens.Book an RV in Sheffield and road trip out to the Derbyshire Peak District National Park. Pick your favorite from a range of water activities, including sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, swimming, and fishing. The rivers Wye, Derwent, and Dove are preferred scenes for their wealth of rainbow trout, wild brown trout, and grayling. Witness the meadows of wildflowers, grazing wildlife, and ancient monuments from a narrowboat. During the height of the Industrial Revolution, the Caldon Canal and Peak Forest Canal were heavily used in transporting limestone throughout the country. As a past winner of the Green Flag Award, a Keep Britain Tidy initiative, you can rest assured that it’s a well-managed, clean and green space.Journey through the Peak District on horseback and embrace the scenery from a new perspective. Fell-running is another option. This fun sport will keep you busy with its calendar of events and gain exhilaration as you run hard and fast through the fells. Glide, in quite a few ways, in the air and scan the Peak District down below. If you’re a real adventurer, then make a trip into Titan Cave, near Castleton, the deepest natural cavern in the UK. Caverns in Castleton are the only place to find the Blue John stone. World-class climbers flock to Stanage Edge, the most popular and challenging rockface in Europe, to refine their technique. Newcomers who are unfamiliar with caving or rock climbing must be accompanied by a qualified instructor.Trek through the Peak District walking country on a couple of classic trails. The Trans Pennine Trail, a 2,500-mile walk, connects the park to the Turkish border. Limestone way markers guide hikers through the beginnings of the limestone filled scenery which can be found along the way. Derwent Valley Heritage Way, a natural reservoir and countryside landscape with an industrial heritage, is recognized as a World Heritage Site. Though it may be 55 miles long, there are plenty of canals, villages, towns, museums, pubs, and shops to pop into along the way. If you’re worried about getting lost, sign up for a ranger-led tour or join one of the many groups on an organized walk through the Peak District.
Camping in Sheffield
Venture out to the farmstead with your Sheffield RV rental. Fox Hagg Farm, within driving distance of the Peak District, is a working farm and campground. Home on the farm, campers will have access to electric hookups, grass or cement sites, showers, water taps, and a chemical waste container. The option to purchase farm-fresh eggs right on-site makes this the ideal getaway for those keen to spend time in the English countryside. If you want to stay close to the Peak District National Park, then park your Sheffield travel trailer rental at North Lees Campsite. In a sheltered valley just over a mile north of Hathersage, this site also provides camping pods for those who don’t fancy pitching a tent. Another option is to camp at the Castleton Caravan and Club Site. Settle in with your Sheffield camper rental on one of the standard paved electric sites with or without an awning. Included in your stay are on-site laundry facilities, gas, bathrooms, and even a dog washing area. The endless lovely landscapes both natural and historical are ideal for cycling, walking, and bringing your pooch along. Half a mile away, in the nearby Village of Castleton, lingers the rubble from William the Conqueror's Peveril Castle.
Exploring the City
Travelers with an RV rental near Sheffield will find a convenience store, butcher’s shop, fresh produce, a post office, and a few supermarkets in town. On your walks within Sheffield, you’ll most likely stumble across a myriad of color, with new pieces of street art dotted around the city. Step into the stunning green world of more than 2,500 plants from across the globe in the award-winning Sheffield Winter Garden. Sheffield city center holds the largest theater complex outside of London, where you’re almost guaranteed to spot a few very famous music and sporting stars. Millennium Gallery often hosts big touring art exhibitions including the Ruskin Collection. It’s also the most visited attractions in the North of England.Further outside the city center, tourists will find the Chatsworth House, the home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, in Derbyshire Peak District National Park. Tour the 105-acre garden all while picking up some fresh produce from the farm shop or dining in luxury with an afternoon tea and a home-cooked meal. Children can stay and play at the 1,000-acre Chatsworth Park and Stand Wood, along the banks of river Derwent. Great experience! We hired the Rollerteam Zafiro 675 for a local festival over 4 days. Great van, plenty of room for the 4 of us and all the gear we took. We had Everything we needed with the van and more, including a wonderfully large fridge with freezer compartment. Much bigger than some vans we've had before, perfect for the wine! Would highly reccomend. Easy, friendly and welcoming pick up and drop off too. No complaints whatsoever, great service. Thank you! Hayley, Paul, Jude and Pete.
Hired this last minute after emailing Paul late one evening and by chance he’d had a cancellation and a van was available. Paul was fast to respond and the booking process was quick and easy. Handover was thorough. Use of the Sprinter: easy to drive, great facilities for 4 days at a festival, very comfortable and great that it has a toilet, shower, fridge and double gas hob. There is heating too, however this was not needed. I’ll certainly return to hire again with Moira Motorhomes Hire…. Thank You
